I am a first time user and could use some help from you pros out there. I just burned my first dvd+rw (Sony) using the Sony DRX-500ULX (external, but think it is the same as the other 500 models that are usually mentioned: 500A). I used DVDXCOPY for the entire process and it seemed to go off without a hitch. After the burn I tested it in my DVD player on my computer, worked great. Then I tried it in my home player, Pioneer DV-C302D (which according to dvdxcopy.com and well as other sites I have checked is compatible with +R and +RW), so I popped the disc in and the XCOPY "duplication" screen popped up. It looked like everything was running smoothly, but the movie itself never started playing. The player didn't recognize it and ejected the disc. Anything I can do? I also have some Verbatim +R discs, but don't want a bunch of coasters. Wanted to do all my testing on the +RW first. I also have Nero 5.5.10.15 if that would make a difference, but I have no clue how to use it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cancel post (but another question here). Sorry to waste your guy's time on this post, after a couple of tries my home player thought pretty hard, but eventually did end up playing the disc. A different question however, has anyone used the sample pack from Meritline.com yet for the Sony 500? If so, do all the discs work well? If not, which ones?
I had the same trouble the first time I used a Sony +RW disc when I used DVDX with Nero, it seems that Nero doesn't like DVDX, I used RecordNow with great success. I have also heard that using the wizard in Nero is the problem?
I suggest you use Decrypter and DVD2one to fit a DVD on to one disc, DVDX uses 2 discs.
I have the Sony DRX-500ULX (External version), but same as internal. My home DVD video player seems to not recognize the DVD, even though it is a compatiable DVD player accourding to dvdplusrw.com...I did some research and for some reason the DVX is not not setting the bitsetter up correctly to read cd-rom...it is set to cd+rw or CD+R depending on the type of DVD disc you are using. I would like to know that if I use DVDShrink, will it allow me to choose the BitSetter so that it can work in my home DVD player to recognize a DVD-rom format?
I use the Ritek -r and they work great. If I got a coaster it was some stupid mistake I made. My friend uses Princo and she says they're awesome. They're a little cheaper than Ritek so I'll probably give them a try when my supply gets low. Also keep in mind that it's ultimately up to the DVD player as to which DVD's you use for movies so I'd suggest buying small quantities at first.
If I were you I'd dump DVDXCopy. I bought it, tried it, regretted it, then moved on. I now use DVDDecrypter and DVD2One w/RecordNow DX to burn the disc. I got tired of having 2 dvd's for one movie and sometimes when it said it could fit the movie on one DVD I'd still have to burn the second to get the menus to start the movie. DVDDecrypter->DVD2One->RecordNow DX takes more time and manual work but the product is better. Especially with the new DVD2One allowing for compression of a full disk (great for Serial DVD's).
But if you're happy with DVDXCopy then I'd say don't rock the boat. If not then check out some of the tutorials for DVDDecrypter->DVD2One on this and other sites and see what you think.
