I am trying to use dvd shrink but I am having some problems. I burn with Sonic. I put in my dvd and hit back up. It starts encoding. After 2 hours it finally finishes and puts the files into a folder. i didnt know what to do with that so i opened the files in dvd shrink again and hit back up. I see a message on the box that tells me to enable burning i have to buy and install nero. someone please help me. what do i do to get this to work without having to buy this million dollar product, and any pointers on how to copy dvds more effiecently would be great. Thank you all.

Frist of all 2 hrs. to me sounds a little too long, so check to see if your burner is set for DMA mode. Here is a guide to check and change it if necessary.

How to enable DMA for IDE controller
http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm

If you want to keep it free (you can download a trial version of nero), I suggest you have shrink create an ISO image of the movie then burn the image with either dvd decrypter or Imgburn. When you choose backup in shrink, choose to save target as ISO image file or ISO image file and burn with dvd decrypter. Make sure the enable burning with nero option is unchecked in shrink.

If you choose to save as ISO image file, you can then use imgburn to burn the image to disk.

If you choose save as ISO image file and burn with dvd decrypter, shrink will automatically run decrypter and use it to burn the image to disk.

get dvd decrypter here..http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/

get imgburn here..http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Get dvd decrypter from one of these places..

http://teammodders.com/download.php?action=file&file_id=1

http://xtreme-source.com/main.php?c_id=download&action=file&file_id=17

I haven't got time to show you how else to burn with shrink at the minute... i'll try later, but in the meantime have a look through the settings in shrink.. especially the ones after you've hit the backup button.. it's not hard to work out.

good luck with it

[edit] never mind, johnl123 will set you straight.. posted at exact same time, LOL.

Hi Karlh welcome to Ad, I think the first thing is to get you burning? So pay a visit to the Slysoft site, and download AnyDVD (for a 3 week free trial)

That'll get you started; in the mean time, have a brouse-about the forums, and enjoy, 'tis a sad fact 'tho, some progs have to be paid for.

lol regards.

El gringle..

thank you John for your help but.... I'm afraid I'm computer stupid. I downloaded dvd decrypter, then i went into dvd shrink clicked backup, selected teh save to iso image and it gets 2 or 3 min into it and an error message comes up everytime.... If I were to somehow get nero would that solve all of my problems? I have a friend that uses nero and he said that after he hits back up it starts the burn automatically. I dont know if he saves it as an iso.. to be honest i dont really know what that is. i just want to be able to copy this movie. thank you for your patience... lets figure this out...

I tried again and recieved yet another error message.

DVD Decrypter
I/O Error!
Device:(1:0:0) SONY DVD+ RW DW- Q58A (D:)(ATA)
Scsstatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition
CDB: 2A 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00
Interpretation: Invalid Field in Parameter List

This is is so aggravating. Do you ahve any ideas???

Your more than likely getting an error because of an encryption issue, new sony and microvision copy protection is being placed on some new releases to prevent backing them up (having nero will not help you with this).

DVDshrink and DVDdecrypter are no longer updated so they can't do the job alone when it come to the new encryption placed on the disks, that's where Anydvd comes in, it runs in the backround helping shrink or decrypter to crack the encryption and get your backup. So get (as suggested by Gringle above) Anydvd and install it, it comes with a 21 day free trial. Once installed run dvdshrink as instructed to create the ISO image.

get anydvd here.. http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html

Since you have DVDdecrypter installed (I'm assuming it's installed) choose the save as "ISO image file and burn with dvd decrypter" option in the backup selections of shrink, shrink will automatically run decrypter and use it to burn the image to disk.

An ISO image is just a different format for the video files, it will be just one file with a .iso extension.
