I recently popped down to the local computer shop and purchased a 50 tub of Ridisc extreme 8x for my Nan. However up on close inspection ie Nero drive speed they produced 14 times better results. So the next day I went to get a tub for myself only to stop at Tesco on the way back, as you do was looking in the bargain (smartprice) section and found 5 dvd-r 8x so I fought id have a laugh and see the ridiculously high pi errors/failures and the results were incredible.

hi, i'll let someone else answer the PI/PIF numbers, but as to the actual discs (ugh)!!....
Quote: cheapo tesco smart price = Disc: DVD-R (UME01)
- ugh, don't buy cheap crapola media from Tesco!
Quote: Datawrite yellow = Disc: DVD-R (CMC MAG. AE1)
- a-ha, more crapola discs, see my sig for reasons not to use 'CMC Magnetics' media.
as to the burner's firmware - Quote: Drive: LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S
Firmware: BGS4
- it's way out of date, BS0Y is here -

Sorry forgot to mention the burn was produced on my TSSTcorpcd/dvdw sh-w162c but as i can't do a media quality test (for dvds) on this drive I did it on my mums computer she doesn't really burn and if I suggested getting the latest firmware to her she wouldn't let me do it, (as she's like that). So what DVD-R do you recommend because in the past i'v had ridisc 4x and these didn't prove to be too decent either. Im not sure as to go about updating my firmware for the sh-w162c the firmware for this drive is TS08 should I update this and if so how, where and is there a chance it will render my drive useless? any help will be appreciated.
Oh and cheers for the links on explaining about pi errors and failures will read.

Just wondering if you have a link to buy some 'real' Taiyo yuden 4x dvd-r that will ship to UK as these only supply USA or some 'real' verbatim advanced azo dye 4x (if these are any good) as I'v spent countless hours searching online but to no avail.
Help will be greatly appreciated as I havn't got a job and im down to my last £30, (from buying crappy media).
And if these posts are anything to go by I'll be having about 30 ps2 backups rendered completely useless in the next couple of months.
:(

Some are self extracting programs, some are MS DOS and others have to run by a boot disk in true DOS mode. In other words all are different. Go to the site where you received your bin file and find the doc file on How To before attempting it.

TYG02s = GG000xxx (where xxx is the batch number)...these indicate AUTHENTIC 8x DVD-R Taiyo Yudens...
the TG000xxx = 8x DVD+R format with the YUDEN000T02 media coding~ :)
there ya go...the easy way to figure out Taiyo Yudens..
