Firstly, edit your post and remove the serial number so that it does not get pilfered. It is at the top and begins with 1A20...

Your nero needs to be updated as this version is ancient. Get it here:

You need to enable your DMA as you are in PIO mode which is real slow. You can follow the instructions located here:

You should try to free up some memory, no multi-tasking during the burn process.

The recorder does not like the media being used. The firmware update should help with this. I would recommend using Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Maxell, and Sony Media (made in Japan for the last two). Your Riteks should be okay too.

These are high quality medias. Do not use memorex unless you enjoy coasters.

Get these items corrected and give it another go. 4x burn speed will be okay.

Cheers.

Not bad media, however some people do have problems with these. Try the updates and see if this solves the problem.

THANK YOU FOR THE HELP. I AM MAKING THESE CORRECTIONS AND WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT TURNS OUT.

I WENT TO CHECK TO SEE IF MY DRIVE IS IN DMA MODE AND NOTICED THAT I HAVE 2 PRIMARY IDE CHANNELS.

THE FIRST LOOKED FINE BUT THE SECOND READ IN IPO MODE. I CHACNGE THE SECOND "PRIMARY" TO DMA IF APPLICABLE BUT THE " CURRENT TRANSFER MODE LINE DID NOT CHANGE.

I ASSUME THIS WILL CHANGE WHEN I RESTART MY COMPUTER.
THANK YOU.

Yes, it should when you reboot. Turn off the caps lock. It's against the forum rules as it makes folks think you are shouting at them.

Cheers.

Thanks Ruger:

Flight PLan worked perfect. It seemed to encode a little slower than before. i put in a bad blank disc so it would cancel to check to see if I updated everything correctly. i noticed that I was still GA02. then I followed the install directions again for that. I included the error message for a question I had. I think that I got all the updates correctly. before i reinstalled the ga04 and restarted the computer, I noticed that the DMA for cd/dvdw ts-h552b still said off. but after the restart the error message below states all are on.

Last question:

Now that my firmware is GA04 and the drivers DMA are all on, will my encode time be lower. flight plan took 45 minutes to encode and cold creek manor took 1 1/4 hours to encode. both were movie only w/o subtitles and english only. compression a was 100% and b was 95%.
Thank you for all the help.

Now that my firmware is GA04 and the drivers DMA are all on, will my encode time be lower.
That depends on your system. Certainly having DMA enabled will improve performance, but a lot depends on your processor speed and the amount of ram that you have. Looks to me like you have 512mb ram and your system uses approximately half of that to run the system. That leaves you with about 256mb to do your processing with. I would upgrade my ram to 1 gig as soon as possible to improve performance.

Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB)
Last address to be written: 2285887 (507:58.37, 4464MB)
I would set my target size to 4300 as this indicates that you are burning too close to the edge of the media. When you burn too close to the edge you will have pauses and pixelations in the burn copy which can be annoying.

Cheers.
