Is there any word on how to backup and play PS3 game backups? because I take it you will need a BluRay burner and blank BluRay discs.

And that means that even after the PS3 comes out, we'll have to wait a looooong time before backing up games and running them will be possible, and then wait some more before it becomes accesible. Take a look at the 360, that uses DVD media instead of Bluray and it's been out since november. Rumors aside we are still waiting for the first real modchip to be released. And even when their discs can be ripped, no one can take credit for making succesful backups.

the farthest PS3 would go as "backups" would be storing games on the harddrive ...even then probably impossible considering the bluray holds 50gb

That must be the reason why Sony is using Blu Ray now.

to keep people from download games and burn it. They know some of us cant affored blu ray burner.

i think the future of ps3 backup lies, with not backup discs but loading them directly from the HD.

the only trouble is how the hell are we going to download 10-20 gig files?

well, here (im from uk), 10mb internet has been released for general public for £34.99 a month. i expect the prices to fall very soon. a 2 years ago 1mb connection was £34.99, today it is £10.

and the competition today is very stiff which will help prices go down quickly.

so don't worry, the future is bright, if not swap magic.

ok.ok.ok.ok.ok.ok.ok.ok. i get the point.

It was confirmed that the PS3 is only using Blu-ray for this purpose alone. This is also the reason it's delayed, they haven't finished the copy protection for Blu-ray yet. I agree, HDD is our only backup chance, but that still means you have to buy a Blu-ray rom for your computer and when on earth are those coming out? and prob for $1000 bucks

dvd burners were expensive a few years ago. blue ray burners will be cheap & available in a few years i anticipate. we'll just have to sit back & wait :-(
