Had a badly scratched dvd.

Used dvd decrypter which took over eight hours with over 15,000 errors to decrypt. created and ISO file.

The ISO file is about 7.5GB.

DVD shrink gets a "programming error" about 75% into the shrink processing.

What else can I do?

Is there any other software that can shrink the ISO file, preferably freeware?

Curiously

This is only a guess on my part. I would try ripping the disc with DVD Dcrypter in file mode. Then open the files in Shrink and see what happens.

Sounds like you may have a bad rip in the ISO mode.

Worth a try, but it took over eight hours to rip the ISO file and that is a lot of processsing time.

Will advise about this tactic Monday...

15,000 errors
And you might be out of luck, with that many errors the file created may be useless. Try Isobuster and see if it works.

Would VOB work?

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

I downloaded a VLC player and the movie is watchable. That is scanning the movie and checking out the chapters, etc.

Today is a rainy Sunday, so I will watch the entire 'film' on that VLC player in full screen mode on my computer.

I will tomorrow purchase a DL disc and then try to burn the ISO file to a DL. Possibly this file is not for some unexplainable reason compatible with DVD Shrink.

I had shrunk other files from other DVD's in the meantime so DVD Shrink is working well at the moment.

Thanks to you all for your great help!

One thing no one mentioned is that you can open an ISO file with WinRAR to have the Video_TS folder where you can open it on your PC. No need to rip it again in File mode if it takes that long. A drive emulator such as Nero's ImageDrive or the freeware Daemon allow access to the Video_TS folder as well. Once in file mode you can run FixVTS if you think there may be some compliance errors due to all the errors. Simply open the Video_TS folder and drag the Video_TS VOB onto the FixVTS window. Make sure nothing is checked on the FixVTS and then click Full DVD. Shrink is usually the most forgiving of transcoders and in some cases repairs compliance faults with DVD files. Even with DL your burner software may opt not to burn due to compliance issues. Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks. Wil advise.

So far the dvd file is fine and watching it on VLC is okay with me.
I have viewed one half of teh film and I see no problems... YET!

Also, presuming the second half is okay to view,
Will advise after I try to burn ISO file to a DL DVD.

watched full movie and there were serious scratches that must have been overwritten by DVD Decrypter, but allowed me to view full film.

I will just have to accept that some of my DVD's got seriously damaged.

Why pressure on the software which works well for non-scratched DVDs?

Thanks to all,
Robert
