Rumor: PS3 To Have Different Systems Too?

An EBgames employee has leaked that EB and GameStop are going to take pre-orders of the PS3 soon. But to everyone's surprise, there will like be 2 packaging for you to select: $ 299 USD or $ 599 USD (O_O).
He also said the $ 299 version might not have the Blu-ray Video playback function, but the $ 599 version will. But still, both versions are capable of playing Blu-ray games. Now imagine a PS3 that can't play Blu-ray videos... the only word I can find is "Lame".
Ken Kutaragi's word is still in my mind even now: "You can buy the PS3 by working overtime for a few days." I wonder if Japanese people are getting THAT well paid, or was he just referring to the 9 version?
We cross our fingers about this rumor.

I was begining to like the idea of a single $399 package. But if I can get my hands on a PS3 for $299 that's even better. I don't care about BD-Rom movies right now, I plan to buy a BD-Video player when there are some movies out, after the price comes down. The question is what else comes with the $599 package? If it comes with a decent hdd and Linux, as well as BD movie playback, then I could consider it. That if the rumor is true, of course.

I'll take this down WHEN micro$oft decides to stop being lazy and make the capcom fighting games backwards compatible with the 360 dammit!!!

That is the biggest load of bull I have ever heard. Until I see sony make an announcement saying otherwise tell that E/B employee to go to hell. Half the time they don't know themselves.

Ouch. I know it's only a rumor for now, but let's pretend for a second that Sony announced this.
A 300 dollar difference between the two versions will have a lot less in common besides BD-video playback, no?

So they can both read bluray games but not bluray video. That does not make anysense to me. If they are going to use a specific laser to be able to read bluray information to read games why can't it read movies. The only difference is the software so you can play movies. I don't think the software cost a difference of $300. Plus it says an employee at EB like I said earlier they usually don't know what they are talking about. Now if it came from some corp EB guy I would beleive it more.

It isn't that weird, the XBOX cannot play DVD's without the DVD playback kit. I bet that they could probably do something similar, toss in a high capacity memory stick duo, maybe an hdd and some xtras and there you have it: A $599 PS3. I'm no saying it's true, but it's not imposible either.

Good point, that's why I say they have to include a decent hdd, a high capacity memory stick duo and some nice extras, to make the package atractive. Sort of like the premium 360 which has the headset, media remote and the live membership trial. They could do it. Of course it will be wiser for them to stick with a single package for $399 with BD-Movie playback and fewer extras, that way they will be competing directly with the premium 360. The core is very unpopular as far as I know.

Highly doubtful they do that. It might be a marketing strategy to greater increase PS3 sales as well as Bluray movie sales later on. But that would be a little too...... crazy. They make lots of money but piss everyone off. But who knows.....

I think I am going to wait a couple months after the PS3 is released to buy one. I have a 360 now and I have not played it since Dec. There has been a major lack of new releases. I don't want to make the same mistake when I get a PS3

I really don't care about Blu Ray movies, mostly I dont watch movies that much. I will stick with the Non Blu Ray PS3 version. Besides, I'm low on cash(not really).
I hope PS3 releases sometime this year. I heard rumors that EU going to be released 2007 of next year.

ill be getting a ps3 on or near release. if the games i get can satisfy me till the newer ones, ill get a bluray movie or play my old games in ultra high res. or maybe even use my psp with it and do awesome shit. its like the psp, a console that does it all. i heard the 360 is shitty really bad when it comes to backwords compatability, and all the games that were ported from xbox to xb360, the xbox versions all do not work..smell a fish here anyone?
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...
