is there any way to compress the movies in the game to make it down to 4.7g? its only just over 5g so its got to be possible. Just another way of looking at the problem...

actually are there any apps that could help in downsizing the audio and video files in the game? After downsized is there some way to say read from layer 1 only... there has to be a file in there that tells the ps2 which layer to read.. is this a stupid idea??

The problem will be solved if we understand how PS2 handles the burned DVD+R DL media.Only thing we need is a program that can copy the original exactly the same or make PS2 believe that.I think the OS linux should be an answer for us.Cause it has many abilities about file systems and etc.Maybe there should be an option in burning DL media using linux.Any ideas ?

[QUOTE]PS2s can read factory pressed dual layer DVDs because their structure is different than burnt DL DVDs. For pressed ones, the laser reads from inside to outside on both layers. For burnt DL discs, the laser reads inside to outside for top layer, then outside to inside for inside layer. This confuses the PS2, which is why there is no luck with DL DVD+R. The good news is DL DVD-Rs are soon coming onto the market, although I don't think its been announced of its structure yet, so even those may not work.[QUOTE]

this isn't entirely true...the ps2 can read dual layered discs whether pressed or not, mine can read dual layered b/up movies,so where would the difference be :)..agreed dvd structure is different, but it (PS2) still reads the d/l

if this is the way that the ps2 reads the disks then u have to revers all the files 4 the second layer cause the ps2 is readin them in the rong order this is why it is gettin confused and only half the game works. the reson i have not tried this theroy is 1: i cant get any dl discs
2: i dont have a burner thet does dl
3: i dont know how 2 split the file exactly the same
ok someone please try this and c if it works if it does i will go buy a new burner.

i don't believe this is the issue...OTP/PTP
why you say...well because we wouldn't be able to boot, but we can, even though it hangs after first credits, making that theory a dead end to me,it tells me that the laser is reading the data on the disc,my b/up works but i have to use my original in conjuction with it,so would it be logical to say it's not the way it's formatted? sure it needs a patch, but not for the OTP/PTP

did u burn the disk in ptp or otp? i just think it is to do with the second layer cause it reads the first fine please someone try my theory and c if it works. i copied the game with DVD Decrypter and had 1 mds file,1 i00 file and 1 i01 file i took them both to iso buster but it will not show me what is in the i01 file so then i took the file to magic iso maker and it wouldnt even open it at all it said it wasnt an image file, can someone tell me why this is and how i can open it! and can someone please tell me if the i01 file is the second layer? thanx

I agree with samuels it has to do with the dvd checks.OTP/PTP are different burning methods, but hopefully a patch or something could be released to make the dvd read OTP.So far I have been checking out Sonix newest program he made which is nice for real.He made the CMP patcher v1.1 from http://www.backuptools.co.uk .Although this doesn't work for GT4 for the moment, give it some time Sonix is definately on the right track as for messing with dvd checks. In due time,it will soon be available and I do give props to Sonix for making the CMP patcher program. It is definately something to check out if you haven't looked at it.It is dealing with patching the IOPR.img files in the games, which is where the dvd checks are found.

I HAVE DONE IT (CRACK GT4). TO DO IT CREATE A ISO IMAGE OF THE GAME ON HARD DRIVE. EXTRACT THE VOL FILE FROM THE ISO USING ISOBUSTER THEN USING A PROGRAM WHICH WAS CREATED TO EXTRACT THE VOL FILE FROM GT3 TO EXTRACT THE GT4 VOL FILE (I CAN NOT REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS CALLED) TO DO IT RENAME THE EXTRATCED GT4.VOL TO GT3.VOL AND RUN THE PROGRAM WHEN THE PROGRAM HAS EXTRATCED THE FILES DELETE JP AND US FOLDERS AND FILES. THIS TAKES ABOUT 1GB OFF THE SIZE SAVE AND THEN RENAME THE EDITOR VOL FILE BACK TO GT4.VOL.nOW USING MAGIC ISO DELETE THE ORIGINAL GT4.VOL FROM THE ISO IMAGE AND REPLACE WITH YOUR EDITED VERSION. tHIS MAKE THE TOTAL SIZE OF THE ISO IMAGE ABOUT 4.4GB THEN USING NERO OR OTHER BURNING SOFTWARE BURN THE ISO IMAGE TO DISK AND ENJOY PLAYING THE GAME (THIS TOOK ME ABOUT 8 HOURS TO CRACK BUT IT WAS WORTH IT BECAUSE I HAVE THE GAME AND I AM ALSO THE FIRST PERSON FROM WHAT I CAN SEE THAT HAS DONE IT HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) NOW YOU CAN DO

I have got a DL burner and original game , and gear pro mastering cd-dvd software , I got exact image of both layers , but I dont have DL media :) cause I cant find it in my area...
and there is sth else about burning , there is a choice in the gear pro software , DL break point , it defines where the break of the layers should be...
I think this is the answer ,
you may download the evaluation of gear pro from
www.gearsoftware.com
somebody should try it.

Found this strange.

Used DVD Decrypter to burn iso to hard drive woked fine.
Then used hjspilt to split the iso which splited into 6 files.Burned the Number 1 iso to disk which came out at just over 3 gig on the disk.
All files on the disk were same as original and none missing.
Went to ps2 to try game it booted great to first bit of text then blank screen.
But what i don't understand is all files are correct on the disk i made as the original.
So why does this not work.

because so at this stage we believe...well i believe the .img file needs patching,my back up works (dual layer backup disc)but it only works in conjunction with the original,so therefore i know the PS2 actually can read the dvd+dl discs

i think ur wrong samuel! people have used 2 disks 2 play the game burning 1 layer on 1 disk and the second layer on the other and this works why? cause the ps2 reads the files in the right order just like the original disk from inside to outside, there is just alot of changing disks back and forth but it works so therefor why does it need patching? this is why i thinx that it is reading the files in the wrong order cause when u play ur burnt one ot gets to the screen we all dread and then goes blank then u insert the origin all then the ps2 reads the second layer.i copied it onto a dvd-r disk and got to the same screen cause the whole second layer is not on there so it can not continue!i dont know man shit ive nearlly lost all my hair im havin gt4 nightmares i just hope someone cracks this shit soon!!

to my knowledge no-one has even got that far, ripping it onto 2 discs, you can copy all the data onto a dl media...it's all there, for me to swap back to original to get my b/up working suggests dvd checks, and the proggy i used says i need to patch .img so therefore i think i am correct in saying it needs patching, but finding a patch to suit is another thing :)

Yep samuels is right it is the dvd checks that are preventing us from booting the game. The only way I see this by patching the IOPR300.img file with a patching program, but wait I have an idea.I was wondering is it possible to replace the GT4 IOPR300.img file with one that exist already in a different game.I don't know if it would work, but might be a hint to eliminate the dvd checks.I think I seen one implemented in the dvdloader or cdloader version.I am not sure if it would work or not,but maybe it could work.I still doubt myself on this idea, but would like to try this idea real soon.I was thinking of using an already existing game that works with Swap Magic and pulling out the IOPR.img in that game. Then rename it to IOPR300.img if it isn't already named that, and then implementing it back into the GT4 files. It might be able to work, but I will try it out since it is just something I thought up out of the blue.I'm not really certain if the IOPR.img file the one for GT4 could be replaced or not,but am about to find out.
