Creaky and Alcohol, Thanks for all the help with this nightmare problem. The hook-up through the i-link is not working anymore, so I'm back to where I started from. I am not burning on the fly. The movies are on my hard drive. The burned to a disc. I used the "Drive check" file on SONY's website to see if there is a problem with my Burner. When I use a DVD+R disc to cehck the drive, it passes. When I use a DVD-R disc, it fails (It doesn't even complete the write process). After work I'm off to Best Buys to get the Verbatim DVD-R disc. Hopefully, I can find some RW's so I won't make so many coasters.
What I really don't understand is how the SONY DVD-R disc burned flawlessly for weeks and now they won't.
Sometime ago I got a few errors using shrink to decrypt, which changed my DMA settings. I corrected the settings and sine then, I've been having this problem with DVD-R Media. Could there be something that I missed?
Props to you guys in advance................

could be, trouble is all i can do is go thru logfile etc and offer bits 'n bobs on the way. obviously you could reinstall Windows, or buy new burner etc etc, but all of that is typical Microsoft and a pain in the bum; luckily Nero's logfiles are pretty good so we go by those and generally get people going again. another thing to try 'might' be Nero info-tool, it generates miles of log info, great for stuff like this, but we could maybe attack that later.. at the end of the day if we get this sorted you may still be able to use those current discs anyway..

@DKDeluxe,
Apparently, I don't know what to say anymore. It's ironic, and for some reason, I keep saying this; what dvd or movie are you trying to back up from (I know it's already in your HD)? Is this a movie or files which was downloaded from the net? Could it be corrupted inside one of the file? I may be wrong, so please correct me all right.
On Nero Burning Rom, I use the "UDF/ISO" for PS2 Games burning only. For DVD movies and AVI files, I use "DVD-Video" for my backing up. Here is a picture I just made it.
Again, I really am lost at this point. However, the dvd burner still rejected or didn't like the media as well. Hope Mr. Creaky will be able to troubleshoot or find a solution in due time. Sorry, not much help here.

@DKDeluxe -
Quote: Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ?
- this still isn't right. if you've done the DMA thing and it's still not saying 'ATAPI DETECTED' then you'll have to reload the motherboard drivers

- this isn't right - you're burning too close to the outer edge of the disc. I can't remember now, did we discuss the DVD Shrink target size before ?. Either way, set target size in preferences to 4300MB thus avoiding edge of all discs

Grrrr!
Right i've had another thought....there are at least a couple of long-running threads about external burners, all seem to have problems with USB, not with Firewire. I've got one last suggestion and that would be to see if the burner could be taken out of it's enclosure and the dvd-rom put in it's place, the burner being installed internally to the PC.
I use my cd writer/dvd-rom combo in a usb2 enclosure, and it does ALL my ripping/cd burning, and has not once caused me a problem in sooo many movies. I would try this provided the Sony can be easily removed from the enclosure..
here's one of the long-running epic threads re external burners - nothing concrete in there yet, even a Nero techie is in there (Craig) - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/102002

Creaky/Alkohol,
How do I reload the mother board drivers? I changed the DMA settings through my registry last time. Couldn't change it in device manager. DO you know another way?
Does my DMA setting have to be on for all drives or only for CD/DVD Burners?
I hooked the Burner up to my friends PC and it burned DVD-R Media fine. So I think there is something wrong with a driver somewhere.
I don't want to re-install my OS..................OH NO....NOT THAT......

DMA is only needed for non-USB stuff. DMA shows to be ON in your last log, but that question mark looks like it's there cus you got burner connected externally so leave dma/drivers be.
Short of reinstalling XP over the top of existing XP the only other choice is to connect that drive internally

Creaky,
I'm gonna use the System Restore. That will change my settings/drivers back to what they were before I loaded the burner,
Right? If that works, then I guess it's something in my OS/BOIS/Drivers or something not so obvious. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks for everything guys.......

Did you get a resolution to this?
I'm seeing the same symptoms on a new (internal) Sony DRU-800A drive I just bought.
I can create a data -R, but Not a movie.
I can create the movie on +R media.
I have tried Fugifilm and Sony media.
I upgraded to the KY04 firmware (unit came with KY01).
I uninstalled DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and the Nero software (then rebooted and installed again). Same results (added to my coaster collection).
I tried two different source disks (Pirates of Caribbean and a Paul McCartney concert).
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks
