vista is nothing of xp. it was completely redone by stripping the gui out of mac osx tiger and slapping on a new one, while also re-writing the coding for compatability with the pc world like dx10 and all that. vista can play dx9 games but no farther. like how mac osx can play os9 games and before and how os9 couldnt play os8 games. its because of all the changes to the system that to allow the backwards compatability you want would sacrifice security. i hope u have to enter a password for everything u install or vista will have virus problems. osx has 0 viruses, they find the holes discovered and patch them in days when there are some.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

Not really. It wasn't completely redone despite what ms might tell you.It has been added to since ms-dos ,so how can you say that? You say "by stripping the gui " what?
"vista can play dx9 games but no farther." Yeah your right (sorta) but I meant forwards compatibility...sorry..For instance directx 10 games won't be playable on win xp.Only on vista.

Quote: ACtually Sony has always been second releasing their systems...Saturn came before PS1 and Dreamcast came before PS2
Too right, my mistake - i don't think i even noticed since the PS1 slaughtered both of those consoles.

Vista was "completely redone" in the sense that the original longhorn os was completely scrapped and MS had to start over with a different approach, thus windows vista.
The majority of the delays with vista have to do with compatibility issues. MS didn't want to alienate all other windows users with the release of Vista, which is why it's more complicated than it would be to just make a brand new Windows OS.

By the way Vista is a really stupid name (sounds like something from the 80's) as was longhorn lol. Are you guys basically saying that we'll have to upgrade to this new slow mac rehash operating system to run DirectX 10? Damn! lol Not that i have a graphics card up to the task... Does that mean that all games requiring DX10 will also be incompatible with XP? Because that basically forces us to change to play new games!!

Directx 10 will be released on windows vista only last I checked. But I heard that ms will make some kind of emulator for previous releases. So it's not really the games that won't run it's just the new technologies found in directx 10 won't be there and therefore games developed for directx10 will be....incompatible?

these threads are going downhill right now.. sony needs to spit out a new headline entitled "sony signs deal with immersion for development of a compatible vibration function" since immersion says its possible and they are urging sony to propose.

That has to be the biggest grievance i have with the PS3 - no vibration function? It's a step back and for $900 (Australian) i want three vibrating motors goddamnit!! It makes getting punched feel more like getting punched, or hitting a wall with a car feel like hitting a wall!

ahaha lol.The wii looks to be a great system with lot's of innovation but It aint gonna out sell ps3.Really I would be suprised if it's not their last system altogether. The wii's best selling point is price($250 u.s.)not innovation. If the wii were $599 I wouldn't even give it a glance.
Timmy1970 and anubis:It's already been confirmed that there will be third party controller's with vib on ps3.I know I know more money but if you really want it at least it's available.

True. But Sony are really becoming bastards lol. Logitech is the way to go for controllers anyway - i got one for my PS2 just recently (the others have taken a pounding because of games like Jak 2 lol) and they are far superior compared to that plastic crap. Given that i do like to buy Sony's official gear, because the design is often best compared to some cheap 3rd party controllers...

I have a logitech pc gamepad the thing looks exactly like a ps2 controller. It' well made and solid.
Lol I've broken controller's on games like jak 2 by throwing them.I wont be doing that with ps3 though because it's so expensive.

Damn straight haha - the ridiculous price tag is gonnna drive me to wearing gloves when i use it inside a dustless padded room (which by the way will be alarmed with laser beams - the cost of such technology of course being cheaper than the console itself lol).

This looks to be a stupid flame war beginning about now.
As much as I like nintendo and look forward to the Wii, I still don't see it selling as well as the ps3 will. I think the Wii will sell better than the GCN, and I think that the PS3 won't capture as much as the ps2 did (unless, of course, Blu-ray is a huge hit, then it might be closer), but it's naive to not recognize Sony's dominance thus far in the home console market.
The Wii and ps3 offer completely different things, so I wouldn't be too worried either way.

Lets all save up, buy one of each and end this 'flame war' lol. I know I'm gonna. It's just choosing which one to get first. Probably the Wii because it's nice and cheap - and a new Zelda and Metroid are coming out on it. Besides which, i doubt that Nintendo could drop the price much further, but the Xbox 360 and PS3's prices have the potential to drop over time. Perhaps Microsoft will decide on a price cut to up sales towards the festive season? Here's to hopin...

I could imagine a lot of people eventually owning both systems. I want a Wii at firt but like to buy a ps3 when the price comes down.
I think people will do it that way or the other way around.
I dont see why not considering its so cheap....

i think the wii has a slighly updated GC video care in it. like they upped the clock ratings. the
graphics pretty much compare to my geforce 5200 if even that.

See, the thing about sony and 1080p/Blu-ray is that they are thinking of the future...2 years down the road may seem like a lot, but PS2 has lasted about 6 years now...in 2 years the majority of households will be HD ready, and Digital inputs will be the norm, now for 360 they'll be behind the times, but the PS3, while at a high price will be guaranteed a 6 year life because it was looking forward to the future, not staying in the past just because it was cheaper.
Yo!

that is one of my views on this whole situation. plus, if ict is not enacted untill 2010-12, then the component of the lower end model will still output at 1080-p. after ict is enacted, i think it will be in the 500's-p area output to prevent piracy of hd media.

most of the people I know only bought DVD players in the last 2 years or so, when they got real cheap.
That also when DVD really got into the mainstream here, you dont even see film adverts for VHS/DVD anymore.
Sure its future proof, but that stuff is pretty useless now, when it does become mainstream they will be cheaper by then and better seperate blue-ray players ( i think ps2 dvd player is lame, especially for back ups)
