Things can only get better, although that's what I thought. Got myself a BenQ 1650. Same problem, doesn't read the info.
I'm running a DISC QUAILTY test to see if it gets to 100%. It's running very slowly.

OMG, i cant beleive you found that drive. That is a very good drive, i would reccomend you keep it!
Sounds to me like a software issue for sure. Run Nero INFO TOOL and send me the report. Its under NERO>NERO TOOL KIT> Nero INFO TOOL.

I'd suggest you download and run Ccleaner on your system to thoroughly clean out your registry and system, might not help this problem, but wouldn't hurt your system.

Please upgrade to Nero version 6.6 atleast.
here is the latest version of WNASPI32.DLL http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/WNASPI32.DLL.html
Update your WNASPI32.DLL which is part of the ASPI layer (probably your cause of problems as i mentioned earlier, its outdated and old) After you update Nero, grab the WNASPI32.DLL out of the Nero folder and drag it into your windows/system32/ folder. after that it should work fine. "System ASPI" is not required but could be helpful (personally i never install it unless a specific API asks for it). Anyways, Try to read disc info, if not then try the below procedure.
Could be another API interfearing with your ASPI layer, try uninstalling the following API's from your computer: dameon tools, Alcohol 120 (cough, cough), and ashampoo. Then try again disc info. Let me know what happens, i hope we solve this before page 4, this thread is getting long. BTW i PMed u.
im pretty sure this will work. Oh btw, if it hasnt hit you yet, your NEC drive is prolly fine, i would still keep the benq for future.
