Right guys a tad bit upset. Got myself a PSTwo v14 and mooded it with a Matrix Infinity.

So I try a PS2DVD game (GTA: LCS) it felt really slow. So I thought maybe it was the rip? I tried a number of PSX games and they are all sluggish, do you think it's my PSTwo or could it be my burner it's an NEC 3550a I used both Nero and Ultra ISO still no go.

originals do the same.

I have tried a backup of a DVD works fine.

Uhm, very odd. Burnt Tony Hawks Project 8 this time and amazingly it works fine, only difference was I burnt at FULL speed (x8 insted of x2/4).

I'll try some more and report back.

By the looks of it, it is only PSX games I get the bad fps on, PS2 seem okay.

I've used two different brands of disc, so far WHSmith Value, I thought this was the problem however the same happens with TDK ones. I seriously doubt both are the same.

I've burnt them at 2 speed and all the way to 48 speed (max)

I have a NEC 3550A burner.

I have used both UltraISO and Nero 6.

First a sorry to 56K users, i know it's wrong to just throw in pictures however Afterdawns forums didn't let me use the thumbnail from imageshack.

Anyway, here is my config for UltraISO.

Dunno if using Track at Once will make any difference. I'll wait for input first and then burn a disc soon.

Get better cd's *sony, verbatim, philips*, try burning the iso's at full speed with ImgBurn *free burning app*
Try updating your burner's firmware as well.
Also, check if your ps2 might need a laser fix, it could make a lot of difference on performance *and not to mention, on how long your ps2 will last*

yea sony, verbatim, philips, fuji film are good if they are MADE IN JAPAN, not TIAWAN, but JAPAN. Made in Japan discs are the best for those brands. if you cant find them in a store by you then settle for the Verbatims made in taiwan, they will hopefully be MCC dyed.

Also ontop on the type of DVD you use, make sure they are PLUS dvds, using those discs will save alot of laser life on your ps2.

Im also curious, if you have time, it will take about 8 minutes, but post a quality disc scan if you can of the disc that you burned, the more dvd disc space you burned up on the DVD the better to test. go to Nero > Nero tool kit > Nero CD-DVD speed, choose the DISC QUALITY tab, set speed to 8x, click start, then take a screenshot and post results.

Uhm, I used IMGBurn, burnt the disk and then it verified it and I got this message. I hit OK and it keeps popping up, it looks like that could be something do with it?

Is it right to blame it on the burner? If so what DVDRW do you recommend? (not NEC)

You got there a second quicker.

Benq is a awsome burner if you can still find them, COMPUSA has them on sale and the sale ends today. They sell them in a NORWOOD MICRO or NORWOODMICRO box, both of the models on sale with the $40 mail in rebate are good drive, but remember sale ends today, so hurry!

Xeonox, -R dvd's are easier on playstation and xbox lenses, actually.
Also, that's an error code you usually get with cheap, bad dye media.
There's probably nothing wrong with the drive, it's just the crappy media doing it in.
also, keep in mind that only cd's should be burnt at higher speeds, if what you burned was a dvd, then that explains why it came up with an error.

Whoops im sorry, its been a while, he is right MINUS discs are better for the ps2. And if you can find MADE IN JAPAN discs (normally Taiyo Yuden, which are GRADE A dyed)they are even better or if you know your discs you can buy Taiyo Yuden discs online. If you dont wanna mess with the online thing and cant find made in japan discs in a couple local stores then i would reccomend some made in taiwan Verbatim Minus 16x certified discs wich should be Grade A- to B+ qualty DYED discs.

It is true, it is either your burner or your cheap media, thats why im reccomending you do a disc quality scan using Nero and then post the results. Remember the more GBs on the disc you used the better for doing the scan, if you cant find anything big just burn a normal dvd and do the scan. or better yet scan both a recently burned normal dvd and the ps2 backup dvd.

Ill be leaving in a few and wont be back for 5hrs or so to go shopping so ill check the thread later on your DVD quality scan results. Good Luck.

Okay taken tests with the following CDS.

PSX - Gran Turismo (copy)

PSX - Dungeons and Dragons (copy)

PC - Theme Hospital (orginial)

Uhm, even the real disc didn't work. As for DVDS I get a "error initizling test." error.

I might try and find a PS2CD and post back what happens. Since PS2DVDs work but PSX don't and a PS2CD is a little in the middle of the two.

We have the exact same drive :-) .
Now, what i find odd is how your psx games results look...
Here's a screencap of my scan of a *badly scratched* backup of Vagrant Story :

*Yes, i know, i'm using an old firmware... It works fine for me.*
Now, look closely for the differences.
As for your errors, did you properly flash the drive ?
did you get the flash from http://forum.rpc1.org/ ??
Have you tried looking at the connectors on the drive, see if they're not loose, damaged, or w/e ?

Did it with a PS2CD, um. I do have another NEC drive (I think it's the same wo/ DL) I can only get hold of it on Monday.

I'm sure all my connectors are correct the drive is on it's own on one IDE channel so it's not shared. I just hope it's my burner as that can be replaced fairly cheap (compared to the ps2 or possibly all my blank cds)

Thing is PS2DVD is fine.

*I have to go it's 2.30am here - come back in the morning - g'nite*

something is not right and its NOT your PS2, either you got really bad cheap disks (shame on u if it is), or your burner is not burning right.

TEST 1

Im curious...insert the same dvd media (the ones u used for the scans)but a BLANK dvd, and then open Nero CD-DVD SPEED, choose the DISC INFO tab, and take a screen-shot of that or COPY TEXT and paste here in forums.

TEST 2

Also, instead of burning a PS2 Game, try burning a MOVIE (dvd-video)and then do a Nero SCAN and post results.

You seem to have 4 possible causes..... bad media....improper drive installation...... your drive is about to take a poo poo on you...... or you are burning with wrong settings. Dont worry, we will narrow it down by the end of this thread, just try the testing procedures in this post.

I inserted a blank DVD (a Bulkpaq orange) this is what I have been using to burn my PS2DVD games and they've all worked fine.

When I use a blank CD (and not DVD) I don't get any info, this normal?

I have a DVD Movie I burnt last week so I could use that. It plays fine in the PS2.

By Nero Scan, you mean just goto Nero CD-DVD Speed and hit start?

Results:

Note: - the problem is only with PSX games and PS2CD (since they are both CD based) PS2DVD games work fine.
