Ok, even after reading this thread and many other firmware downgrade guides, I'm still unsure of what to do. My main concern is that all these firmware downgrades look like they won't work on Sony's 3.72 firmware, which is what I have now. Is this the case, or am I still able install custom firmware when running 3.72? If not, could someone please tell me, in specific steps, how to install the older, downgradeable firmware versions from firmware 3.72, then how to install custom firmware? Thanks in advance.
Also, if you need to know, I have the new Star Wars edition PSP Slim.

The Slim is different to the Fat PSP, you can't downgrade to 1.50 t then upgrade to custom firmware, you'll need to go straight from 3.72 to 3.71 M33. The only way of doing this is using a Universal Unbricker V3 (Pandora Battery)

To be honest, even after reading a multitude of guides, I actually have NO clue what people are talking about. What is this "Pandora Battery" and how would I go about installing it? Sorry, but I'm really new to the PSP hacking scene and I need the most dumbed own instructions possible.

Dumbed down is definitely not what you'll find :)
For making a Pandora Battery we can't really give simplified instructions of simplified instructions; if you want an example of hard to understand instructions then look at the official readme for it, the guides you see on here try to be as simple as they can whilst still telling you all you need to know.
If you don't understand any of the terms you see then you'll probably just have to look them up. What you need to know to look for is this, you have two options:
1) Make a Universal Unbricker by borrowing someone else's Fat PSP with custom firmware 3.XX, getting someone on here to make one for you, or buying one off eBay.
2) Hardmod a Fat PSP battery and create your own Magic Memory Stick.

every one tells you to update to a firmware thats not the offical sony one so that you can play iso/ and cso's but up to now for me its been the biggest wast of time iv ever done due to the fact that i still cant play any of the games that i have in iso and cso form. can any1 tell me what i need to do now then.
WHere are you placing your iso/cso's on your memory stick?? Once you have updated to 3.71m33-2, just use the 'format memory stick' option in your psp menu, and then put your iso/cso's into the ISO folder located in the root of your memory stick (ex: ms0:/ISO) -another thing, if you are having problems getting the games to load-make sure that you have your UMD option set to the "sony NP9660" driver so your games will load without the need for having a UMD game in the drive. You can change this by either pressing the select button while you are in the psp's XMB menu and scroll down to 'UMD mode'--to change the driver press right on your d-pad until it reads "sony NP9660"-then just scroll to exit and select that..Or go into recovery mode and change it from there in the 'configuration' menu.

I spoke to someone who has experience downgrading PSPs (Including PSP Slims like mine) and he told me that even with Pandora's Battery you still can't downgrade from version 3.72, as it was created specifically for preventing Pandora downgrading. Is this true, or is there a way around that?

You will need the Universal Unbricker Version 3 - Despertar del Cementero. That will upgrade you to 3.71M33 without bricking.

What is Universal Unbricker Version 3 exactly? Is it firmware you install on a battery like Pandora's Battery?

You will need a pandora battery and memory stick to downgrade that firmware-There is no game exploit you can use at this time.

Congratulations, you just opened up a PSP game. If it isn't an ISO, then just rename the end to .iso (Make sure known file extensions are NOT hidden) and see if it runs. Other then that, recompile it with something like UMDgen.

Hi. Can I play downloaded PSP games on a PSP with version 3.95 firmware?
I don't actually have the PSP yet but I'm trying to work out the best one to buy if I want to play downloaded PSP games.
Thanks.

I've been trying to do as much research about this as possible. If Sony's new 3.95 firmware will not allow me to play downloaded PSP games would Karol's 3.71 m33 allow me to do so?

You're correct in realising official Sony firmware won't let you play ISOs/CSOs; any Sony firmware above 1.50 will not let you play downloaded games.
Not sure of this "Karol" you mentioned :S
But yes, a person called Dark_AleX (DAX) creates custom firmware for the PSP, these let you use downloaded games, homebrew, themes, emulators etc. You can visit his website here; http://www.dark-alex.org 3.71 M33-4 is probably the best custom firmware right now, even though 3.90 M33-3 isn't exactly bad either.
If you want to buy a PSP, you should be looking for a PSP already on any of the custom firmwares (As it's very easy to update custom firmware to a newer version) or 1.00/1.50 official firmware.
If you can't, then it doesn't really matter; any PSP below 2.71 can be downgraded as is. Any PSP below 3.50 can be downgraded using an unpatched (older) version of the UMD game Lumines. Any PSP at all (Even with future firmwares) can be downgraded with the use of a Pandora Battery.
Everything i've mentioned here can be found on these forums in more detail, though do ask questions if you can't find something.

Thanks for the info Shokz. It's not easy (or at least I haven't found it to be) to find a PSP for sale in Australia that is already modded but I am looking.
So if I were to use DAX's firmware then would I even need any of Sony's firmware on it at all? I figure that sounds easier than downgrading to Sony's lower firmware and then I wouldn't have to worry about what firmware the one I buy has on it if I can easily put DAX's on it myself.

Once you're on custom firmware, no, you wouldn't ever need to use official firmware again. If you buy a PSP with 1.00, 1.50, X.XX OE-X or X.XX M33-X then you can upgrade the firmware very easily: If the firmware is below 3.52 M33-4 then you'd first need to upgrade to that before upgrading to a newer one, if it's above that then you can upgrade to the latest custom firmware straight away.
(Past the custom firmware 3.80 M33 you can use the "Network Update" icon on your PSP to download the latest custom firmware for you if you have Wi-Fi)

Excellent. Well I'll just buy any PSP then and overwrite whatever firmware is on there to DAX's custom firmware and that should take care of any problems. Thanks Shokz!

Just had another question about playing downloaded PSP games. I know you put the downloaded game on your memory stick. Once you delete the downloaded game from your memory stick do you lose whatever saved games you had as well or is that saved onto your PSP?
I figure you lose it but just curious. Thanks.
