I don't know a lot about this so please tolerate any stupid questions. I have a xbox 360 elite. I want to mod it so I can play back ups of my games. I don't know what version of the drive I have so first I need your help to find that out. Second I have a sata motherboard, and I wanted to know could if I use that to do the flashing instead of a sata cards. Thanks

To answer your question, dre6789, you may or may not be able to mod your elite, you'll need to know what kind of drive you have first, then it's ROM version (you won't need the ROM version # till very last pretty much). Visit this link to find out what brand drive you have, then we can go from there.
To answer your question, FrmDstryr, I don't believe you will be able to use the connectivity kit. Unfortunately, I'm unfamiliar with mtkflash, so I can't answer your question, but I can tell you that you will NOT need mtkflash for your hitachi 79. As far as swapping the drives out, first you'll need to dump the drive key off of the original drive and put it onto the replacement drive. As long as they're both hitachis, I don't believe you'll have to do anything else.
To monkijin, no problem buddy, any time :D

Thanks for the reply Budro. I know it is not the one in the middle. I think it is the one on the left. If it is the one on the left or right would it be possible.
Thanks

no problem :D. ok, if it's the one on the left, no, it's not possible (to the extent of my knowledge. start a new thread for confirmation, if you'd like)if it's on the right, then yes, it's possible

I just got home and checked and it is the one on the left. So I guess it's not possible. Thanks for your help anyway and do you know a reason for this?
Thanks Again

I found a website that sells the Samsung drive. If I buy it and replace the one I already have will it work?

well, if you did that, you would also have to spoof your drive to look like a ben q (phillips) drive. i don't know anything about that, so i can't really help you much there, sorry :(

i have lost my sons firmware he has a 59dj drive that i have already flashed with garyopa firmware.
i noticed in firmware toolbox 4 that there is a folder that says original firmware that is full of all different firmwares.
can i extract my drive key and merge it with the old firmware in the folder only asking as i want to upgrade to ixtreme firmware and need the original to flash it back to first.

yes, if you merge your drive key with the orig firmware, then you should be able to flash it back no problem.
also, before you upgrade to ixtreme, know that a lot of your older games probably won't work because odds are they're not stealthed

I only have one question... when I plug the SATA into the Xbox's DVD drive and turn it on... am I supposed to do this with the case completely detached? Color me crazy, but I thought those big ol' screws I pulled out were grounding screws...

take the plastic shell completely off.
after that, i left the dvd drive in the metal casing with the power plug in it and the SATA cable going to the PC plugged into it. As far as grounding goes, you can simply take a copper/tin wire and touch it from your metal 360 case, to a metal part of your PC case and you'll be fine

if you flashed it with firmware toolbox, you'll have to stealth the games with what's called PFI.bin file, SS.bin (security sector file) and the DMI.bin file (disc manufacturing information)or else they will not play on your 360

Ok, so - let me get things straight....
I have the 79FL, and i want to buy a new hitachi and flash it myself(don't want to solder at all).
Can i get my "key" (dump it?) from the 79 drive without doing any kind of soldering, and flash the key on the new drive?
Thanks...

No matter what you do, you will need to solder with a 79.

hello, I'm looking for some help, ive broke my dvd drive on my 360 lately and have bought a 59dj in replace of a 0078fk, ive already tried to replace it with a 47, but failed miserably, if I could have some direct instructions, it would be nice, as I have read lots of tutorials but to no avail. basically i just need to know what steps to take, like inject the key first then make the firmware, then flash or what, should be getting the drive in a week or so, any help would be much appreciated, thanks
