PacBink... oh... that was binkie7 read my mind. LOL
She's right on the freeware burner though. ImgBurn is the updated burner software from DVD Decrypter by the same author, Lightning UK. He's been keeping it updated as needed and making improvements along the line. I can't think of any large retail companies that haven't upgraded for Vista. Nero and VSO work and the DVD backup specific software from companies like Slysoft and DVDIdle are updated as well.

well i started the imgburn and so far all good thanx i just cant use any of the ricoh media do you know if imation would be any good

I'd pass on them. Another brand name that uses different manufacturers.
All I use is Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Sony. With these I can't remember the last time I had a coaster.

Most of the variety stores carry Sony. I'm fond of the +R, especially since it booktypes to DVD-ROM. It doesn't matter if it's the TY manufactured in Japan or the Taiwanese manufactured by Sony. I've used both with excellent results. Verbatim uses different manufacturers, but usually the more reputable ones, i.e. Taiyo Yuden (TY) and Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MMC). It pays to occasionally ID your media even when using the same brand. It may not always be the same. Like Binkie says, most of the name brands made in Japan are safe bets. In the past I've used a lot of Ricoh media and it didn't cause a problem. I'm not sure, but some of the older Verbatim I had may have been Ricoh. Ricoh has produced a lot of media for different brands. But things change. Memorex proved that. LOL

Well I fixed my own problems :) DVD Decrypter as we all know is not being updated and Im sure that is the problem. Nothing would burn with it anymore, even ImgBurn wouldnt work. I know still use the same method with a different burning software. I backed up Transformers, Hostel 2, and others using Shrink3.2 first then burned with CloneDVD and anydvd in the background. I didnt even have to update my firmware. Im sure I will have to sooner or later though. Thanks for all the help.

I have a question. Does anyone know how to make ImgBurn automatically start the burning process after Shrink finishes doing what it has to do? In Shrink there's an option to use enable burning in Nero(see pic). I would like to use ImgBurn instead.

Download and extract this .exe to the dvd shrink folder in program files - link.
This will give you the option to auto burn w/ ImgBurn.

Oops - mea culpa - I should have posted better instructions.
Extract the folder from the rar file to like our desktop - then copy and paste the .exe in the dvd shrink folder. You should get a warning about over-writing the file - click yes.
The folder is probably in the dvd shrink so just move it then copy the .exe from it into the dvd shrink folder.

That's what I did the first time. The option is still not there :-(

Hmmm that's odd - burn w/ imgburn should be listed under select backup target once you click back up.
You wouldn't see the 'enable burning w/ ImgBurn' option in the file i/o tab - ImgBurn will be listed under select back up target.

That's the format ImgBurn supports. It shouldn't make a diff on playback at all.
Even if you use the build mode in ImgBurn it creates a iso 1st then burns.

As Binkie mentioned, ISO is the format used with ImgBurn. ISO or File is the structure set up to be burned according to the format needed. Naturally it would be set up before burning. The old saying about getting the horse in front of the cart comes to mind. Retail apps like Nero offer both options, burn with Files or ISO. With Shrink the burn with Nero option uses the File format. ISO is simply a package format. The contents end up being the same. If you open an ISO file using WinRAR you'll see it contains the Video_TS and audio_ts folders from the File format with the BUP, IFO and VOB files. Once the files are burned to DVD, you'll see the file format. So the format is dependent on the burner ware. Just remember not to rip in ISO and let Shrink or the burner ware do the conversion as needed.

I'm probably way off base but maybe not enough hard drive space to buffer if that's what you're asking about. Seems like the disc completed fine though.

How much free hard drive space do you have jpreyes?
Keeping up on the system maintenace like disc cleanup, disc defrag and virus scans? I'd also run a registry cleaner too - here's a good free one - ccleaner. Use the issues and cleaner options.

As binkie stated, system maintenance is a MUST. You should DEFINITELY keep your hard drive as clean as possible, I would recommend a weekly defrag, clean up and virus/SPYWARE scan (spyware can and will slow your system down IMMENSELY and the worst part about it is if you are infected and don't run a scan, you probably don't even know that it's there) to maintain optimum performance from your system. Try it, and if you are still having problems after that, come back and we'll do our best to help you out.

This is the RAM you started with, should be plenty, but if you are multitasking while trying to burn you get the following warnings...

So, I have recently subscribed to blockbuster online. I rented 3:10 to Yuma and Shoot'Em Up. Well, With 3:10 to Yuma i would start dvddecrypter and a quick css or ccs status bar zooms across the screen and starts decrypting. It only gets to 6 percent then issues a disclaimer saying it cannot continue no matter how much i click retry. Also, with Shoot'Em Up i would begin the decrypting process then my computer would freeze. Is this my program/computer's fault or has blockbuster put more security on their movies? Any help will be most graciously accepted

I saw somewhere that Blockbuster included code on their discs that "call home" over the internet when somebody tries to copy them. Wonder what they say when you go back to the store. ;)

I saw that issue somewhere also. They say that Blockbuster does not say anything when you return the movies.(some people don't use the "Total Access" feature, so they return the online movies by mail instead of exchanging for an in-store rental).
However, when you opened an account with them, they required a credid card. When you copy the movie and the code "calls back" home, they charge $175 dollars to the user's account for each copy. The ammount will not show up on your credit card statement until you close the Blockbuster account(I guess they do that to charge people as much as they can). Also, they send the user's name to a database of blacklisted names to be investigated by FBI(that FBI warning is not there for nothing).
People try to avoid this by disconecting the internet while doing the copying. That worked at the begining, but now they also can "call home" using radio frequencies. But there is a way to get rid of that too!

This is a technical question and not asked as a means for pirating. What about the memory backup? I heard that couldn't be bypassed and Blockbuster could read that when the disc comes back, whether to the store or warehouse. I heard of one guy trying and he messed up the DVD and ended up paying for it.
