do yourself a favor and update anydvd, you are a couple behind. The next one for sure can handle the region 1 version of S3.

The first version of AnyDVD would handle the region 1 version of Spidey 3. There's only CSS and region code on region 1. DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink can handle this one alone. If the protection was any lighter, there wouldn't be any. Some people in region 2 have seen some problems with Shrink for some reason or other. From what Jaffo said, it may just be compression. Jaffo ran the files through different programs, so we can't be sure, but deep analysis and cutting some files is what seemed to get the backup done. We're still waiting for someone in region 2 to post the info from the new media window in AnyDVD.

Pacman hopefully I will have the disc today .A query I have is this as a I would like to start the process completely fresh .Shrink seems to retain its analysis from the first time you put a disc in consequently even if you dont backup at that point when you put the disc in at a later time or date it just opens immediately with the dvd structure and apart from this one the compression setting .Is there a way to override or erase this memory.Still not sure its a compression thing asI got it to single layer without deep scan

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\DVD Shrink
Paste the path in your Windows browser and delete the analysis contents.
I'm going by what Jaffo said about dropping files and getting the compression in order. Once I see the info log from the new media window in AnyDVD I'll be better able to see what you're dealing with.
When you get the DVD back, try ripping it with DVDFab HD Decrypter and open in Shrink (as mentioned by Creaky and bbmayo). I'm curious to see if that makes a difference. If it does, then it may be copy protection. Occasionally things happen in producing DVDs that the studios don't foresee. Minor mistakes in structure that play on a standalone can stop recording software. I think that's where the whiz kids at the studios came up with some of their copy protection ideas.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

@PACMAN, I should have caught the CSS protection and anydvd theory, since I first posted about it in another thread.

The old CSS encryption was the original copy protection and true encryption. All the old (and new) decrypters can handle that. The structural protections the studios are using to mess up the recording software is more recent and came after Shrink lost support. That's why Shrink could do the region 1 release of Spidey 3, but not the region 2. Except for ARccOS and Puppetlock, Sony stacked the copy protection on region 2. That's strange. From talking with Creaky, region 2 often has lighter protection than what is usually seen in region 1.

Structural protections can cause some pretty strange happenings when doing backups. I've had software act differently when working with the same disc. So, your having the locked 98.8% once and not the last time could be due to the copy protection. With structural protections you're better off ripping to the hard drive. Most of the decrypters that rip also process for the newer copy protections. So ripping with DVDFab HD Decrypter (as Creaky and bbmayo mentioned) may be the best route to take. AnyDVD has a ripper with CloneDVD software built in for the decrypting process. But of the 2, I prefer DVDFab for ripping.

Thanks for the explanation Pacman also the way to eliminate the analysis.
The reason it went through this time I think was to do with the previous analysus so I have gone through the lot again as follows. Clearing the previous analysis each time and opening the disc as fresh each time
1 Shrink will not accept it due to invalid dvd structure unless anydvd was running.
2 Yes using deep analysis removes the 98.8 syndrome and corrects the audio oddity. Which you advised in the first place
3 Yes backing up to a Folder removes the 98.8 syndrome and corrects the audio 98 syndrome providing quality setting has been set to perform deep scan during backups. Which I had already done
4 However backing up to Iso again with deep scan on back up does nothing it is saved with 98.8 and the wrong audio .
At the end of the day at least it can be done thanks again for your support

That's why I always suggest taking care of problems first and working in File mode, and only create an ISO when finished and ready to burn. If you see a problem and try to record it, you're more than likely going to have a problem, as you did in your step 4. Glad you got it done. Except for the strange reading stuck at 98.8 there didn't seem to be that much to deal with.
