Quality standards have gotten insanely high. You have to be the second coming of the Beatles... or marketed to the level of the second coming of the beatles in order to have success today. "Amazing" and "Really good" isn't enough to warrant someone spending $1 on a song, $9 on a CD or $8 for a movie or $14 for a DVD.
I agree with you that some people tend to throw around the word "steal" and "pirate" pretty freely (ie. "Make movies/music better and I won't steal"). But I believe that it is a knee-jerk reaction to changing times and the accusations and claims from big media that have come with them. These are words that have had gray definitions to many people for years now, and the industry has only added to the confusion. The problem seems to be that there have always been legal ways to watch/listen to movies/music for free. The internet has only made these habits more noticeable. The way big media and the govt are approaching this issue infringes on so many other rights. There was no way to track how many songs my friends and I taped off our radio when we were teenagers. Little did we know that we had a hand in crippling our neighborhoods police force and in effect, becoming an accessory to murder and theft. I recorded the Godfather II on my DVR. I don't own it, but I can tell you I've watched it numerous times since then and still won't fork over the dough for a personal copy. And I've had family and friends watch it at my house. None of them own it either. I'm not paying a rental fee each time to see it. I don't belong to a movie rental club. I would laugh hysterically if the movie industry tried to claim lost sales for all of the movies I have on my DVR.
The anger people have seems to be with the way big media is bullying the consumers. If you can honestly say that suing parents for $750/song, or that FBI warnings of exhorbitant monetary penalties and imprisonment for copying a DVD are fair and just, then I see exactly where you are coming from and you are entitled to your opinion. But IMO, these are the reasons people are lashing out in anger.
Working to change the system and tools people can use to view/listen to media would be a more effective use of their time and resources than working to change people by pounding the message into them. Especially when the message has a transparent agenda fueled by greed.

Hmmmmmm... Dark Knight was a success because they were successful from preventing pirates from videotaping the movie two days before it was released in the States. Well I guess the movie Space Chimps bombed because some #$$hole recorded it and was spreading the cheap DVD copies at your local flea market the same weekend of its grand opening. Makes sense.

Varnull.........Amilee?? What the Hell is that?? Not even in IMDB. Trainspotting is good, Ronin is ok and boring and Kill Bill parts 1 and 2 were theatrically and cinematically VERY SIMILAR.
But I see a pattern here, you like flicks that are obscure because somehow you feel offended and feel like a 'sheeple' follower when you enjoy movies that most others do to. I call that a complex problem. See a psych, as he/she can help with that. There is truly nothing wrong with enjoying what most others do. Perhaps you would REALLY like to separate yourself from the rest of the world and change the color of your blood, or become a lunatic mass/serial killer. Then you won't be labeled as "one of the crowd of followers". Poor you.

surprisingly there was a really decent bootleg copy within like a day of release, and i watched thousands of people go download it and say F^&& the theaters they cost to much....
just go to isohunt and type in dark knight because it does not matter how good a movie is people will still bootleg it..
and everybody didn't know batman was going to be as good as it was,think about spiderman 3 we were excited about that movie and it was CRAP.plus it did good in the box office.

I own more than 5 and they are ten times better than batman.I said it before and I will say it again I don't have to steal garbage.By the way pirates will always exist even after you pass away,so go jump back on the industry wrinkle stick instead of accusing people of actions they are not doing.I can name some that have been made in 5 years that are alright,but nothing in the category of greatest movie ever.If you want to see good movies watch these movies Seven,Platoon,Casualties of War,Full Metal Jacket,Scarface,The Godfather,Goodfellas,Casino,Raging Bull,Point Break,Force 10 from Navarone etc...I could keep going with movies that are better than batman that I own,and the list I mentioned are old movies by the way.The movies are not about a little nutter running around in his tights,but actually have a plot to them.Hollywood doesn't have anything that is interesting like they use to.The only movies I can think of off the top of my head that I thought are somewhat decent in the past 5 years or so are 300(good movie),Saw(its not really great,but it does have some creativity),The Passion of the Christ and hmmm...I'm stumped what is a good movie they released in the past 5 years or so,and no superheroes or some childish BS like batman.I can name probably more movies made in the past 5 years that I will never watch,and if you think they are producing great titles then something is wrong with you.Hollywood is targeting a younger audience now so this is the main reason why the movies suck.

Hmmm.........pattern here as well; war movies, killing, not much in the way of imagination in war flicks......as they are whole-heartedly based on truth or actual events. Good movies, you're right but your blatant display of lack of imagination (except your invisible friend I'm sure you have) by listing off a slew of THEATRICALLY SIMILAR flicks makes me have to say................YOU ARE NOW PROHIBITED FROM PASSING AN OPINION ON MOVIES AND HAVE FORFEITED YOUR RIGHT TO SUGGEST ANY TO OTHERS.........REASON: BAD TASTE ON 50% (That's an 'F' in school, remember)! piracy is not going anywhere, it has always been here and will always be here, the provisions that the MPAA took had little effect on releases of pirated versions as they were all over the web before the film screened.
It's complete rhetoric from Darcy Antonellis to make out that tighter restrictions and the destruction of our liberties is a benefit to protect the profits of the movie industry. The worrying part is that governments are seeming to agree.

The joker asks a guy if he wants to see a magic trick and then slams his head on a pencil. Half the theater shrieked and the other half laughed. Then he walks out with his hands on some grenades saying, "lets not blow this out of proportion". Oh, thats dark and gritty.
He blows up an empty hospital (I guess reminding people of Oklahoma City was too much) while wearing a nurse's costume (because i'm sure the nurse dress was so good of a disguise that it made security ignore his makeup). Not only that, when he blows it up they throw in a gag about the detonator acting funny. The guy blew up a hospital, but the audience was laughing.
One of the darker scenes was goofballed out by a fat man gag of a guy with a bomb in his stomach. The only things I felt were dark was the scene with Joker and Rachael at the benefit dinner and Two-Face with the Gordon family.
People are like, "Dark Knight is one of the darkest films ever made." "There are monologues, so its the best movie ever made". I actually read a review (It was either IGN or some news paper... maybe the Atlanta Journal-Constitution), which really tainted me btw, that said it was like Silence of the Lambs with Batman. So I went in expecting that and got comic book one-liners (yes, the entire bank sequence up until joker pulls off his mask is filled with lame one liners and goofiness). To go in expecting that and getting constant jokes and dark humor... I was disappointed, but I still give it an A- cuz it wasn't bad, but it wasn't mindblowingly good either. But i've seen alot of movies in a lot of genres.

1 - (or more) of the obligatory stereotypes - lovable drunk, gay romance, one-sided social commentary based on infantile view of the world, pure-as-the-driven-snow-Muslim, interracial romance, wisecracking female, religious or conservative character to be derided or killed.
Mix in a blender along with multimillion dollar ad campaign and a liter of barf.
Serve chilled, at $15 a glass.

I was REALLY looking forward to it, and enjoyed it right up until the point where they tried to ram some simpleton's idea of biting social commentary down my throat. And it's just my opinion, but I think Maggie Gylenhall has oral dysentery. Still, it didn't suck. It's pretty hard to screw up Batman as long as you respect the character and don't involve George Looney or disco costumes.

I own more than 5 and they are ten times better than batman.I said it before and I will say it again I don't have to steal garbage.By the way pirates will always exist even after you pass away,so go jump back on the industry wrinkle stick instead of accusing people of actions they are not doing.I can name some that have been made in 5 years that are alright,but nothing in the category of greatest movie ever.If you want to see good movies watch these movies Seven,Platoon,Casualties of War,Full Metal Jacket,Scarface,The Godfather,Goodfellas,Casino,Raging Bull,Point Break,Force 10 from Navarone etc...I could keep going with movies that are better than batman that I own,and the list I mentioned are old movies by the way.The movies are not about a little nutter running around in his tights,but actually have a plot to them.Hollywood doesn't have anything that is interesting like they use to.The only movies I can think of off the top of my head that I thought are somewhat decent in the past 5 years or so are 300(good movie),Saw(its not really great,but it does have some creativity),The Passion of the Christ and hmmm...I'm stumped what is a good movie they released in the past 5 years or so,and no superheroes or some childish BS like batman.I can name probably more movies made in the past 5 years that I will never watch,and if you think they are producing great titles then something is wrong with you.Hollywood is targeting a younger audience now so this is the main reason why the movies suck.
I'm sorry, but I have a hard time taking you seriously when you say that seven, 300, and saw are good movies. Yes I have seen those three, and I wish I had those hours of my life back from seven and saw, 300 was alright only because it was based on real life events but if that battle never happened and they made a movie about it, it would be the biggest load of bull I had ever seen.

oh please...lets be truthful. what caused the success of this movie was Heath Ledger's death and morbid curiosity. 'nuff said.

Fair enough I never said Saw was a great movie,but it does have some creativity.I don't think Seven was bad at all,and if you wasted your time on batman then Seven would have been ten times better in my opinion.The movie 300 is partially true,and alot of it came from a comic book if that is hard to believe.I'm not going to say I like all my movies based on truth,but I would rather watch something more mature instead of the movies I've seen come out recently.

I have seen all the batman films and can only stand 3 and I half like another, you could say DK got a 30% boost from ledgers death, but before that it was still a huge block buster.

Why is everyone beating on TDK so much? It was a good movie and is a comic book movie I can take seriously, I havn't seen a movie like it, not to mention it was good entertainment, if not critically worthy of praise. Also, Spiderman 3 isn't as bad as everyone makes it to be, it's just not as good as Spiderman 2, I thought it was on par with Spiderman(1). Hollywood, I agree, is not resealing too many good movies recently, but they still have good ones. when you watch a movie, watch it as a viewer, not a reviewer. for example, 300 wasn't critically amazing, but it was damn good entertainment. Some of you won't agree with me, but everyone is entitled to their opinion, so don;t bash this comment around, as well as any others.
