I have got new dvd+r on the website they say Ritek and when I got them they say Ridata same Red pack as Nephilim in the poast. the website said G04. Did I get what I paid for or what. Dose Ritek = Ridata. I just have no clue. Thanks

Hello folks! hello nephilim!
I am kind of frustrated in here!
take a look and guys i need your advice on this!
I purchased 100 pk Ritek dvd-r @ ebay for a good price
the ID reads RITEKG04 i just burned the first two resulting in two beautiful coasters!
what's happening folks?
aren't ritek one of the best media in the market?
is it possible though it reads ritekg04 it might be a fake ritek?
the only good burns have had its with RICOHJPN-R01-02
Memorex first 100 pk
the second memorex i purchased was ID CMC MAG-F01-00 which is a junk media, all of them coasters!!!
now, what's the best way to get more of those RICOHS?

LG GSA-4081B(A101)
WHY ARE THOSE RITEKS NO COMPATIBLE WITH BOTH BURNERS?
WHAT'S GOING ON????

In my case it is me that makes the coasters not the dvd+r or the software. When I come to hear and look around you would think everyones software/computer/user are doing everything right and its not them messing or software messing up and making the coasters its the dvd+r they are using(ritek). Why is it that we Blame it on the media we are using and not much elese.

flanker27 , the user grogey had the same problem with that writer (if I remember correctly) and think she flash firmwared it to be a Lite-On 811(s?)...and the problems were gone [in relation to Ritek G04 media].
Ask grogey about this & Im sure she will let you know all she knnows on this matter [as known to be a very helpful young lady] ! ;)

Okey Dokey flanker27 here is the low-down.
There are a couple of things you can do because the 411S is just downright allergic to RitekG04s as far as I'm concerned.
First thing is to rollback your firmware to FSOF - it likes the Riteks better. If you still having trouble as I did - then trip over to this link where there is lotsa info and tools for use with the Liteons

Now this link here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/80638/438558-105751 will tell you exactly what I did - took nearly two days of trial and error but the end has been fabulous and I've since burnt around 80 to 90 discs with 100% success rate. I still get a bit nervy and error read or KProbe scan every 4 or 5 discs but so far all has been excellent.
If you have any hassles please feel free to Private Message me (you'll see the link at top of page) and I'll help you as best I can.
The Mod you are after is the Zebra ModV4 and the links for download are on the first site link I've given you. Once I did the mod I then also used the auto bitsetting patcher and the speedhack to get fantastic results!!
Good luck and keep in touch - perhaps we could shift any posts and queries to the second link I gave you where I posted all my relevant info and that way all the stuff would be together should anyone else need help in the future.

How did you manage to get lost?? lol That link should have taken you directly to a page called Comprehensive Tools for Liteons.....but anyway....
Here are the important links:
KProbe2 - This tools primary purpose is to scan burnt DVD's for errors and it can also give you media information and has some other good features as well.

LtnFW (LiteOn Flash Tool) - you will need this to update your firmware.

This link will take you to the place where you can get the various firmware versions that you'll need. Keep in mind that FSOF is best for the 411S (before you do the Zebra Mod). Once you have modded to 811S burner then firmware version that seems most compatible with Ritek is HSOK

we need to find out which firmware update FOR LITE ON works with different media without any problems!
otherwise we can burn some discs and others don't
al least to have one that works with RICOH AND RITEKG04

Well there seems to be a trend with firmware and certain types of media......we know that with the 411S that FSOF matches up with RitekG04s the best. And where the 811S and RitekG04 are coupled the most success is had with HSOK.
We could certainly do a bit more research - but ultimately it is dependant on so many things. Even down to burning speed.
But maybe separate threads for each burner type and then reports (dvdinfopro, cdspeed, kprobe etc) can be shown on all the types of media used and how they rated?

Hi grogey.
I read elsewhere about you upgrading your firmware. Now to be honest things like this freak me out. (i got close to flashing my bios once and bottled it,lmao) so being that i have the liteon 851s. and have used verbatim flawlessly on them. ive now become a bit confused as to all the media on the market and all the suggestions on them on this forum. so ive now ordered "Very High Quality RiDisc Branded ``Ritek`` 4x Speed 4.7GB DVD-R". as the clonedisc which i was gonna get turned out to be a little bit expensive form dvd-and-media(yes i know im a tight arse) so i got these from digitalpromo.co.uk seemed very reasonable to me.. but anyway should i upgrade my standard out of the box firmware for these for best results. or suck it and see so to speak

Hi Guys and gals
I've read every post on this thread and all the different opinions on which blank media works best.
It seems that is is no standard guaranteed copying method, or indeed media that will guarantee a perfect burn every time. It seems to vary according to what setup you have and what other software/hardware you have installed on your machine.
I find the best method for me is datasafe ritek G04 4xspeed discs which I decrypt and compress with DVD Shrink and burn with the latest Nero. (These will write at 8Xspeed in my pioneer 107 with hacked firmware).
I did have a batch of the RiDisc Ritek which seemed to burn ok but after a couple of weeks some of them won't play any more so they seem to be degrading quite quickly.
I have to agree with an earlier post that said to avoid Princo's. I have never had a tidy copy with them. My Ronin dvd player will play absolutely anything. I could write the name of a movie on a beermat and it would play the whole film (with extras). My Thomson player does not play backups as a rule but it will play datasafe riteks perfectly every time. As I said I believe it is down to the individual computer set up.

Welcome aboard agent-k and Eclectic.
There are too many variables to say unreservedly that a certain media is the best for particular drives.
That being said - you do find that certain drives like/or don't like certain media. Perfect example of that is the Liteon 411S and RitekG04 - not a good mix.
Eclectic - ever heard the saying Quote:
If it ain't broke don't fix it
. If I were in your shoes I'd burn a couple without updating first - especially as you seem as scared of updating as I am of spiders LOL.
If you do have problems with these burns (you can test with programs like DVDInfoPro or CDSpeed or if you have a Liteon Drive then definitely try KProbe2) then you will have to take the steps of searching for the best firmware for your particular drive and then yes - you will have to bite the bullet - flash your drive........nowhere near as scary as flashing your bios.....even I was pretty nervy about that!

I'll suck it and see. I was fine burning until i came to afterdawn. i had no problems at all. but after reading some threads particularly on media. its all become a bit of a scientific thing.. lol
As agent k said it seems like there is no hard and fast rules on media. which is what worries me the most as firstly i dont wanna waste money and secondly i sell alot of my burns to friends family and work colleages. And i like to be bit of a perfectionist. And i would be truly distraught if i thought i wasnt giving them the best quality i can. Although i only back the movie and the 5.1 up no credits no extras or any of that bs.
Plus like you my daughter is 2y4m and man o man can she wreck a disc in seconds so i back them up and give her only the burn. (i trust her to take the dvd out of the machine. and my player is my pride and joy)
