I got the matte ritek g04's and the first 20 dvd-r's were 100%. But recently, my last 5 burns with these dvd's have resulted in failures. Nero cd/dvd speed surface test indicates at huge unreadable sector from 70% - 100%. First I thought it was the dvd I was trying to copy but I popped one of my maxell discs (which I only save for the most precious backups) and it was 100% readable.
So just to let you all know, Riteks are not perfect and I must agree with www.lordsmurf.com ratings of these discs as second class (maxell as first).
Oh yeah, all burnt with LG 4040B

I have just burned my first 100 ritek DVD+ 4x and I had only 1 bad disk. shrink would not burn on to it. But Decrypter burned on to it with out a problem. I just bought my 2nd 100 pack because of the performance of the first 100. I use the TDK 880 as my burner of choice at 4x speed. all good. maybe some compatibilty issues between your burner mfg. and ritek? firmware update maybe?

Firmware updated. I must have got a bad spindle because I now have 8 coasters.
All average about 70% readable and 30% unreadable in nero's scandisc.
The 30% unreadable all comes at the end of the disc.

I bought a 100-pack of RITEK from supermedia and I am having similar problems. I used DVDINFO and noticed that the last 10% on a lot of the disks come up with problems.

Hi guys, I remember reading a thread where someone stated the Supermedia store sold seconds. I didn't know there was possibly Ritek seconds, but your post seems to point that way. I wish I could remember the thread but it was about a month ago. I buy my Ritek from Meritline.com. I'm about 1/4 into my second 100 with not 1 coaster yet.(knock on wood) Makes you start to worry about buying anything.

It DOES depend on where you buy from & also if they come in spindles/cake tubs rather than shrink wrapped...
The Datasafe (Ritek G04) & orange overprint (Ritek G04) are troublesome media , but all the others I've tried are 99% successful [nothing's ever 100% eh].

Im beginning to believe that that when it comes to blank dvds, even branded stuff is inconsistant...someones having a laugh somewhere.Real strange about those datasafe riteks...never had a problem with them (except when burning with Nero, but hey, Nero buggered most of my discs up including clonedisc, ritek, ridata((using clone to burn now)).I ve recently got a 107 and found some datasafes to test it with using a patched firmware. They burn at 8x absolutely perfect. My head hurts!!

@ dougal58 , I trust the top lot that I have tried & tested myself mate...
Ritek Grade A printables
Ritek Ridisc A Grade 4x DVD-R
Ritek Branded A Grade 4x DVD-R
Ritek Unbranded A Grade 4x DVD-R
I STAY AWAY FROM THESE:
Ritek (G04 dye) Landscape 4x DVD-R (they are overprints) !!
Datasafe Ritek A Grade 4x DVD-R
(I never trust Datawrite/Datasafe , through experience)
P.S mastersak I have not seen any red Ritek G04s , what brand name did they have on them ? And also ... who ever said Ritek G04 was perfect (?)
Perfection is an impossibilty !!

In my personal experience the "Ridisc" & "Ritek branded" as indicated above (In herbsman's post) are near faultless. On the other hand (i have 4 fingers and a thumb!) those "landscape" Riteks are a real hit & miss affair, avoid at all costs. Also any disk associated with "Datasafe" should be treated with the utmost suspicion.
Looking for my old AD

Do you mean RiDATA? Where did you get them? My last two spindles of RiDATA came from newegg with nary a coaster.
My killer sig came courtesy of bb "El Jefe" mayo.

The ones above are good discs. Better to get them in Tubs/Spindles, rather than in Shrink wrap. However, that said, as long as they were shipped by Ritek and not another company, into your home country, then grenerally they will be packaged well enough to avoid any problems with the media. However, shrink wrap discs, although virtually identicle to their spindle/case/tub brothers, are cheaper for that fact...

Funny thing herbsman, is that the top printable ones are the ones i have....
I've pretty much given up on the ones I have and will use it for dvd's around 3.6gb since the bad section is usually the last 20%.
I'll go get myself 50 maxell's for 70 bucks (canadian)

Quote: Herbsman is in UK and uses www.digitalpromo.co.uk
I most certainly do NOT use that site & cannot verify anything that comes from them. I wouldn't order from a company that is at the other end of the counrty to me...for starters !
