Ok, after a lot of googling and foreign language help files, I am here to beg for newbie abuse and hopefully some help ;)
How can I put divx files onto my ps2 formatted hdd to watch them on the tv with my ps2?
I have a DMS4 ProSE, ToxicOS 0.4, and the Toxic Megapack installed.
I can follow instructions easily, just need a kick in the right direction. Would I take my divx files, ISO them, and pop them on the drive with WinHIIP or something? Just trying to avoid having to use CDrs as my PS2 is a 30001 and god only knows how much laser life is left.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think it's possible to watch AVI movies from your HD. I'm not positive about that, but I think you simply will have to use PS2 Media player or sms.

That's what I meant.
I am just looking for a way to watch them from the hdd using the media player in the ToxicOS megapack.
I know I can create images and burn them to cds to watch them, I was just trying to utilize my extra ps2 hdd space and save my laser some wear and tear. I am just having trouble finding the starting place.

Like I said, I don't believe it's possible at this time. You could install My PS2, Sms Media player, PS2 reality player, to your Memory Card and boot them with Devolution mode 1, but the AVI files would need to be launched from disc. I'm not 100% on this, but I've never heard of AVI files being launched off a HD.

And how do you get DivX files onto the HDD? I use WinHIIP for my images...I tried the PFSexplorer, but that was a mess...couldnt get anything to work, even with a diff drive.
Thanks.

I don't have an internal HDD, which is partly why the manual is not fully comprehensive in this area at the moment. Have you got a network adaptor? If you had one, you'd be able to use FTP, and transfer them direct from your PC onto your HDD. Or just stream them direct from the PC.
Without a network adaptor, I'd guess using a DVDR, created in the way suggested by the manual (DVDR.html" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.daveandzoe.plus.com/sms/HTML/en/usage-DVDR.html), then use uLaunchELF filebrowser to copy DivX files from DVD to HDD. Never tried this though, so don't know if it would work. Appologies, Dave

As I said previously I don't think this is a possible at present. You can use apps like PS2 Reality Player, SMS or My PS2 to load AVI files off a disc, but not from a USB or IDE HD.

you can use SMS 1.5 to load mpeg4 videos from a HDD I just finished watching some Family Guy episodes that were stored on my hdd. I didnt find Pfsexplorer to hard to use exept that its in german-portugeuse. I have a had a few times when it stuffed up completly and my partition needs formating but thats the only probs ive had. You will either need to use luanchelf network or PFS to load them to the HDD.

Yes as long as the are mpeg4 AVI files they will play fine with SMS off the HDD i use it instead of burning dvds when i download AVI files saves lots of time without having to convert.

Andrew, what version of PFSexplorer? I had nothing but problems with this one, not to mention the language barrier. I got nothing accomplished with it...any advice with that one?
I'll check out the other piece of software you mentioned, I have a 20 gig drive that I can format and dick around with with no repercussions

Im using PS2 PFS Explorer 0.7.0.26b im not sure if theres a newer version. I first made a partition with DMS format tool with my ps2 less than 4gb as SMS has problems with anything over that. Then set the HDD as slave in my computer and loaded up PFS. Using ImToo MPEG encoder i encoded my files to AVI with mpeg4 as codec. In PFS, choose my HDD, which isnt currently in my computer. Then Montar HDD.
Click your partition then Adicionar arquivo browse to your selected file.Wait for it to finish adding then turn your PC off.Stick your HDD back in your ps2 and load up SMS mediaplayer.

So the PS2 with DMS chip and Toxic will recognize the drive so I can format it to ps2? I'll have to give that a whirl.
How is the viewing quality of AVI with the ps2?

the quality is exactly the same as watching it on a computer.
@Tokijin
It probably is more involving but it can be done way quicker than having to use programs like VSO DivX to DVD with takes like 2hrs to convert. And i dont have a DVD burner in my computer, hell at the moment i dont even have a cd burner :(.

Don't get me wrong it's cool you take the time to tell people how to do this. It seems kind of involved. You seem to have a good level of knowledge, I just see your PM box full with noob requests about this is all. Lemme tell you, that's a joy. Converting to DVD is no picnic, it takes awhile. It's easy to do, but you need to have the hardware to back it up. Anyway keep up the good work. Cheers!

Wow praise from an addict, thanks man lol. Ive done a little bit of converting to DVD its just that i have to take the files over to my brothers house with can be very time consuming if you only have 256mb of flash drive. And when i transfer ps2 games to my computer directly from his man that takes ages like a good hour to split it with WinRAR then liek 10 trips to get all the pieces. Cant wait to get a new ps2 laser.

Yeah you should look into getting a DMS 4 Pro SE either premodded, or after you get your laser fixed. Team Toxic created their own HD Loader program which blows away HD Loader/HD Advance. It's a great chip if you play games off a HD. It auto ATAD patches IDE Non Sony HD's. I'd recommend getting a fat PS2 premodded, or simply getting your's fixed and sending it off to be modded. If you use HD with a slim PS2, you either have to use a USB Extreme and a USB HD (sucks) or buy HD connect (basically an extender to replace the expansion bay for the slims) with a DMS 4 Pro SE. If you're interested in a chip check the modchip FAQ in my sig. I wasn't aware you could run DivX files off a HD, I learned something today. Cheers!

Tis what I have...30001 with a dms4proSE. Was a minor bitch to install, 5 hrs of patience and a 1/64 solder tip, but it went it and worked flawlessly. I highly recommend it.

Get the ELF called DMS format tool from http://exploitstation.com then load it up and choose create new partition then choose a size smaller than 3900mb. Then load it up with PFSexplorer.
