If I were you, I would forget that software, go for CloneDvd2 & AnyDVD from SlySoft. They are WAY superior to what you want. Also if you buy them, they are a lot cheaper!

yes, dvd x copy is absolute crap. there are free apps that do a MUCH better job...my favorite is DVD Shrink

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:
