I've backed up my most used DVDs because I'm very bad with putting them in the tray. Pretty much do the same thing with cds. Anyways, I found that the simplest way to do this is to use DVD shrink, crop the entire movie and choose the lowest compression rate, and then burn the files using Nero. In less than 1 hour, instant backup. I've looked at other people's recommendations for doing this, but it seems too tedious.
I downloaded DVD shrink yesterday and "backed-up" a DVD. Fantastic ! 40 minutes to compress and 30 minutes to burn a 2 hour film. Why doesn't everyone use this ?
I have the Sony DRX-500ULX (External version), but same as internal. My home DVD video player seems to not recognize the DVD, even though it is a compatiable DVD player accourding to dvdplusrw.com...I did some research and for some reason the DVX is not not setting the bitsetter up correctly to read cd-rom...it is set to cd+rw or CD+R depending on the type of DVD disc you are using. I would like to know that if I use DVDShrink, will it allow me to choose the BitSetter so that it can work in my home DVD player to recognize a DVD-rom format?
I USED DVD SHRINK, AND THEN BURN TO DISC USING INSTANT COPY. I AM VERY PLEASE WITH THE RESULTS. I TRIED USING NERO, BUT I GUESS I DON'T HAVE RIGHT VERSION OR ALL THE PLUGIN. IT STATED WHEN I USED NERO EXPRESS THAT IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE UDF FORMAT. AND NERO VISION STATED THAT I HAVE TO DOWNLOAD MPEG PLUG-IN, AT A COST. I HATE PUTTING OUT MONEY.
I REALLY FEEL STUPID. WHEN I FIRST TRIED BURNING WITH NERO, IT WAS AFTER I RIPPED WITH DVD DECRYPTER. I RIPPED WITH DVD SHRINK AND BURNED WITH NERO WITH NO PROBLEM. I RATHER USED NERO NOW THAN WHAT I WAS USING.
DVD Shrink doesn't create VCDs. It rips .vob, .buf, and.ifo files from a DVD (like DVD Decrypter or Smartripper) then shrinks the files to fit onto a '4.7'GB DVD.
You take these files and burn them onto a DVD with something else (I use Nero).
It's great as well, because you can choose how much to compress different parts of the movie. For example - if you want to keep the interviews and trailers, but don't don't mind sacrificing quality so that the the quality of the main movie is better, you can do that. Or you can just leave out the extras.
I've used it a few times now and the quality is excellent - not perfect, but excellent.
