This may become like the 360 shortage scenario or worse, does anyone know how many 360's were shipped in the us in comparison to the expected 400,000 ps3's?
not sure. about 900,000 units were sold in north america by the end of 2005. That's all I could dig up.

Japan ain't going to like the fact that only 100,000 ps3's availible at their november the 11th launch, sony have to get ready for the complaints. I have found some rough statistics on how many 360's were released around launch in america on this website

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2005...ond-round_x.htm

about 300,000-400,000, around the sony estimate of 400,000 they plan to ship in america on release.

i just read that gears of war will be released in UK on the same day as ps3 would have released, lol, i thought they would do somehting like that.

PS3 specs may look better than xbox 360 but i am yet to see a game on the PS3 that looks better than any of the top end xbox 360 games such as gears of war, mass effect and halo 3.

Wow, its good seeing everyone back here, Kookoo, anubis, fazyninja (fninja) and chimpanel.

Anyway I remember the time people where complaining about xbox360 shortages and that PS3 would not have the same problem, well looks like they where wrong there.

PS3 will do well, It will be interesting to see what its like in real life.

true but the way i like to see it is that not only do we get the best game at e3 for 2006 (gears of war), but we also get halo 3 a few mounths later.

i still don't understand why people continue to think or say that one game is going to effect sales of or for a console.

if you are talking about me then, i never really said that, all i wanted to get accross was that gears of war will be released on the same day as ps3. but on the note of one game taking ps3 sales down, is nearly imposible considering that there are hardly any ps3 being served on release day.

PS3 specs may look better than xbox 360 but i am yet to see a game on the PS3 that looks better than any of the top end xbox 360 games such as gears of war, mass effect and halo 3.

it's probably derived from the common knowledge that the console with the most best selling games is the console that comes out on top.

that is too true and why i said that. the problem with the 360 today is aside from saint's row or even deadrising there have not been too many of those "best sellers" for the system. people only seem to throw around those two games as of late, GOW and Halo and for w/e reason m$ or the public seem to always include the games releasing simultaneously with ps3, and implying it'll affect console sales for either the 360 or ps3 (and fninja i'm not picking on you or anything, just making a point). so again it raises the question of why after having a year headstart are there not more of these expected blockbusters? what is or would make people believe or want to believe that things are shaping up differently than the last battle between xbox and playstation with respect to game lineup? seems more of the same.....oh and before some claim sony is losing exclussives, it seems to be the trend this gen. i think 3rd party titles are going to be more multiplatform or those that are exclussive, only exclussive for a set time being. m$ were the ones or actually Moore who claimed GTA as an exclussive only to be proven wrong, AC is no longer exclussive for the ps3, and apparantly bioshock another game from E3 this year that got some nice feedback is also coming to the ps3. so again it seems to be the trend, and if that is the case playstation as a whole IMO has always had much better first party titles than xbox.

some good points there, and i have to agree ps has always had more exclusives, but there are, much like the ps3 many games that have not come into the light for xbox 360, most people only know about gears of war and halo 3.

i need to go to work now, but when i come back i will make a list of what i think are must have games for 2007 (xbox 360).

PS3 specs may look better than xbox 360 but i am yet to see a game on the PS3 that looks better than any of the top end xbox 360 games such as gears of war, mass effect and halo 3.

here is an article about playstation 3 passing FCC tests.

Quote:
News has just surfaced stating that the PlayStation 3 has passed FCC approval tests and that the final clock speed of the Cell processor is 3.2GHz. The FCC is the regulatory body in the United States which regulates communication through radio, television, wire, cable and satellite.
for the whole article with scans
http://www.ps3land.com/article-692.php

not too bad after all.....and some more
Quote:
however we can verify that the report is legitimate as it is currently on the official FCC site. The PlayStation 3 will launch on November 11th in Japan and on November 17th in North America. Launch dates for other regions have not been confirmed and have been estimated at March 2007.

in terms of exclusives i think that there is a reason that there aren't going to be any more. how much money do you think the developer is loosing by only releasing on one system. its probably harder for sony or microsoft to make up that difference with the development costs and all that of this generation.

but on the topic of exclusives i think sony's development teams have a little bit of an edge over microsofts teams. in my opinion they have gears of war coming out and halo. what other "must-haves" does microsofts teams have? With sony though, they have resistance, untold legends, genji, heavenly sword, warhawk, and grand turismo. and i know not all of these are "must haves" for all of you but i have heard multiple people name each of these multpile times.

you make a good point. it was the same with the xbox 360's predacessor. better quality graphics, but alot less anticipated games.

But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

those with a 360 want their version of the game, the 360 has been out almost a year. or in the largest case the public knows alot more of the 360 and its games right now, the ps3 is yet to be released and the launch games are unknown. that article has no validity untill more in known about the ps3 and it games or the ps3 has been on market for some time.

same on the ps3 end. look at how fast all the preorders went up, even for the amount there were. plus polls, unrelyable as they can be, in japan are showing a larger interest in the ps3 with the system and game price drop. the 360 offers nothing more than what we've always had, and both wii and ps3 threw in some jazz in the gaming world. i see both outselling the 360 if the wii is popular.

"in stark contrast to last couple posts:

http://wii.ign.com/articles/737/737977p1.html"

i find the timeframe with x06 ending on the 28th of sept and this big brother test which was from 1oct - 8oct, a bit coincidental. im sure if they did this back when TGS kicked off, most everything would have been ps3 driven as sony seemed to be the talk of the show. x06 seemed to have a pretty positive reaction by many and considering the 360 is the system out i don't find it surprising that their games are highest amongst those being viewed the most.

also the two games for the wii and although red steel is not listed seem to be, not the only games people talk about, but the ones we hear more often. so again i don't find this too surprising.

i also find it a bit ironic that in the 360 section, there is hardly if ever any talk of games or info related to the 360. its all backup/flash/firmware/need help etc....i think that is pretty telling about a system. ok so this is a tech savy site, but how much attention did the x06 thread discussing all the games and news really get? maybe they all do go to IGN.....

here is a bit more news:

Quote:
Research shows massive support for the PS3
by Greg Bergen

In recent research done by Los Angeles based Interpret (a technological research company) the findings show an overwhelming consumer support for the PLAYSTATION 3. The study shows that around 8.9 million Americans are prepared to pay full price ($500-$600) for the PS3, 5.7 million who are prepared to buy the Wii at $250 and 800,000 who are willing to pay $300-$400 for the Xbox360.

The study consisted of 2,000 random interviews Interpret gave online. They then weighted it to the 2004 U.S. Census data of people in the U.S. Lastly, they backed it up by a telephone survey to make sure the online data wasn't over-represented by females, which is an issue with online surveys.

The research also predicts that by 2008 the PS3 will have an established fan base of 12 million in the U.S. The Xbox360 for over a year now has held an unanswered lead in the nex-gen war. However, with the ratios stated above, the Xbox360 might have a hard time keeping that lead when the PS3 and Wii launch this fall. The key to winning in the U.S. lies in Sony's ability to keep to marketplace supplied with ample nex-gen consoles. If they can keep their supply up, then Microsoft may be in trouble.

bioshock, crackdown, pgr4, lost oddesy, lost plannet, mass effect, etc, etc, you get the idea.
