It looks like DVDshrink can't handle the copy protection that's on the disk.

I use AnyDVD it runs in the background removing all protections from
the disc. It isnt free but has a free 21 day trial,
Lifteime FREE updates once your purchase and it regularly updated.

http://www.slysoft.com

Instead of AnyDVD, try ripping the movie to your HDD using DVDFab decrypter, then use shrink to open the files with and proceed as usual.

get it here:
DVDIdle.com/free.htm" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.DVDIdle.com/free.htm

here's a guide on use (If needed):
http://www.dvdshrink.info/dvdfab_decrypter.php

If shrink gives you a problem with opening the files produced by DVDFab decrypter then you'll need to use VobBlanker to get the job done. VobBlanker will correct any file structure porblems created by the copy protection, once corrected DVDshrink will have no problems with opening the files and processing them as instructed by you.

Once DVDFab has ripped the files to your HDD, you'll now need to process them thru VobBlanker, VobBlanker will create a new set of files corrected of structural problems that you'll need to also store on your HDD;

NOTE: Create a folder on your desktop and give it the name of the movie your backing up...ie. Flightplan_movie..., next create another folder inside that one and name it VIDEO_TS, this is where you'll direct VobBlanker to store the files it creates in.

Run DVDshrink once VobBlanker is done and open the files created by Blanker (use open files tab), once shrink imports the files you can proceed a usual with your backup.

get vobblanker here:
http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

It much easier and faster to use AnyDVD but its not free.

Either way your going to need an updated decypter program.

wandering,
Here is all you have to do. Go to the thread below and d/l Shrink BUT when it asks to run or save you want to save it to the desktop. After saved to Desktop then right click on the d/l and go to send to and then click and it should bring up your mail program w/ the install file there

Since your friend can't go online and therefore will be unable to receive e-mail, get the file, unzip it and try this:

Because the file size is just 1.06MB, you can copy the "dvdshrink32setup.exe" file after being unzipped to a floppy disk. You can then transfer the file to the other computer for installation.

If shrink locks up or shuts down when trying to backup a movie, its because of what Jizmak stated "DVDshrink can't handle the copy protection that's on the DVD your trying to backup". DVD shrink is no longer updated to keep up with the new sony or microvision copy protection so it's going to need some help to get the job done. Just follow the instructions given and you should be ok.

johnl123,
You are correct as I miss-read the thread as his friend could not get on-line and my instructions were to send it to him over the internet. I really need to get new glasses.
