I had the same slow speed promlems as many of you are having. I tried all the recommended solutions with no success. I recently uninstalled my anti virus program and shrinks is back to normal. The problem anti virus was E-Trust. When an update was performed on e-trust it slowed down shrink to a crawl. Now I use Avri anti virus(free) and de-activate it to encode movies. It works great. then just turn anti virus back on . Try this. Whatever anti virus you use, turn it off before encoding. Hope this helps.

Some antivirus programs have been known to slow down the ripping speeds for DVD Shrink. AVG antivirus has not hindered read speeds for me and is also a great free antivirus program. Also, have run several different antiviruses while using CloneDVD, no slowing of read speeds or anything. Might be worth a try.Hope this helps!

I use eTrust EZ Antivirus version 7.0.7.7 without any problems.

Sometimes I "snooze" EZAV before burning, but I see no difference in speed or quality.

I had no problem with ez trusr either till around Janurary, 2006. Then all of a sudden my encoding speed on shrink slowed to a crawl. I auto updated e trust and never gave it a thought. When shrink slowed, I read all the posts I could find on the subject and did the following: Checked DMA and it was ok. Cleaned disk space and defragmented, nothing. Uninstalled and re-installed shrink, no difference. Then my E-Trust EZ anti virus expired and I did a DVD before installing a replacement. Voila! Shrink was working even faster than before. With no anti virus on, it ran fast. Originally, an encode in the 50%-60% compression ratio ran at 1000-1200 kbs/s and took 1.5-2 hours to encode and burn(nero enabled). With E-Trust it slowed to 200-400 kbs/s and took 7-8 hours to complete(no joke). Now it smpkes at 1300-1500 kbs/s and takes just over an hour. I left out the specifics of my hardware because it is not relevant. The hardare hasn't changed, just the encoding speed. I didn,t get a fseter computer, I just stopped allowing CPU to be used on an anti virus program that I don't need to make a DVD. So, why have it on. I spent many hours trying to solve this very frustrating problem and now things are better than ever. Thanks to all who post on this forum. I appreciate your time and effort hope this post helps you. Here,s to error free movie making. Blasters.

I was having the same prob and I tried all the rest of the fixes: uninstall re-install, defrag, and all that but in the end it was my drive in need of a firmware update.
