Recently, several DVDs made with Shrink (Any DVD running) have played on the PC but wont play on any of 5 different DVD players, most are name brand newer players.
My discs are all Memorex, that includes my duel layers that I use with larger discs. The burner is a two month old Sony duel layer. The odd thing is not all the discs go bad, only one in four does this, and I can't find any common issue. The fact they play on generic player software on the PC is what I find odd. The DVD players run from SOny to Zenith to some low end units.
Well it could be a few things, most will say it's media, because a lot of the times it is, but it could also be your DVd player. I two players, one plays ALL of my back-ups, and the other plays about 75-85 perceent of them...Check your players compatability, and get better media, (the Memorex I used for some of my back-up don't work anymore...coasters).
Well the first thing I would do is be sure your firmware is up to date. However that probably won't fix your problem long term. Do a search on Memorex media here (or Memosux). That is most likely going to be your problem. Especially if they code out as CMC MAG. They produce a lot of coasters. Check the media thread for sales this week. They will always tell you the best media to buy and you can get top of the line media for $14.99 a 50 pack or less. DVD's aren't like CD's. The media code for DVD's is VERY important. Try to stick with TY's or Verbatims. TY's aren't sold under TY, but instead sell under Sony, Fugi, etc. The thing to look for in Made in Japan. Those more often than not will code out as TY's.
If you can get the Fuji Made In Japan at Best Buy (starting Sunday), they're $14.99 a 50 pack. I believe they code out as TY's, which most consider top of the line.
Here is this weeks sales thread for local stores (US):
