Hi, I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on an older infinity(v1 or v1.1?)chip I brought last year. Removed from previous machine.

The chip is now installed in a PAL V12, followed the instructions for the firmware patch(v1.36) but "infinity manager" doesn't run from the memory card after transfering from CD "memory card manager". what could be wrong. I can see a file in the browser but it doesn't boot? tried pressing triangle on startup.

Probably sounds confusing to someone not done/doing the infinity v12 upgrade. But to those who know, must be something simple I'm missing.

Please help.
Regards
Tony

You don't need Infinity manager to upgrade the firmware. Are you positive you have a legit MI? If not, upgrading the firmware will fry the chip. If so, then proceed using these instructions:

104. Q. I can't get my DMS 4, Matrix Infinity, or Crystal Chip 1.1 to boot backups/imports, what's going on?
A. You need to flash the chip with the latest firmware to boot backups and imports.
DMS 4 Pro SE or Pro: http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=3138141
DMS 4 Lite or Lite SE: http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=8823396
Crystal Chip 1.1 Hacked Firmware: http://www.forumconsolas.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1213
Matrix Infinity: http://www.infinitymod.com/cgi-bin/matrix/site.pl?page=news

Note: There are a ton of Matrix Infinity Clones out there. If you flash a Matrix Infinity clone with the official MI firmware, you'll fry the clone chip. That's a little gift from the Matrix Team to you for not researching and making sure you got a legit MI. After reading this FAQ, there's no excuse for ending up with a MI Clone.
Use Alcohol 120% to burn the bin file to CD-R.

Alcohol 120%: http://www.free-downloads.net/programs/Alcohol_120_

Burn the Firmware to CD-R with these instructions:
1. Unzip the firmware.
2. Insert your blank disc.
3. Open Alcohol 120%.
4. Go to File-->Open and browse to the cue file. Double click it.
5. Once it's open under Alcohol 120%, right click the cue file and click image burning wizard.
6. Select your recorder, leave the write method alone, set the write speed to 4x, set the datatype to PS2, and click next.

Thanks for the suggestion Tokijin,

I don't think my problem lies in the cd burning though I also tried your suggestion to us alcohol 120%

But the V12 inherently doesn't read CDR's until the firmware for the infinity is updated to at least v1.36

Anyway when I get to the memory card part of the upgrade the V12 doesn't run the matrix program? It just goes to the browser.

The Matrix instructions below.

Any more suggestion I can try?

Thanks
Tony

Preparing the Memory Card:
--------------------------

1) Burn Infinity Manager V1.36 to CD following the procedure explained inside the .zip file.

2) Make sure the memory card is formatted and inserted in the V1-V11 PS2.

3) Insert the Infinity Manager CD in the V1-V11 PS2, press reset and wait for the
Infinity Manager program to finish loading.

4) Go to "Memory Card Manager" and select "Install Infinity Manager".
After "Install Succeded" appears on screen, turn off the PS2 and remove the memory card.

The Memory Card is now ready and can be used to upgrade as many PsTwo as you like with the
new V1.36 firmware.

Upgrading the PSTWO:
--------------------

1) Install Infinity into the PsTwo following the installation diagrams.

2) Insert the memory card into the PsTwo and turn it on by pressins reset once.

3) Press and keep pressed the "TRIANGLE" button during boot to launch the Infinity
Manager from the memory card.

4) On the main screen, select "Update Firmware" and follow the onscreen instructions
to update the Infinity firmware.

3) When the "Upgrade Succeded" message appears on screen, you can turn OFF the PsTwo and
remove the memory card.

The PsTwo is now ready to be used.

The PS2 should boot the Firmware upgrade CD and Infinity Manager upgrade CD fine, even without being flashed. If you couldn't flash it via CD, you'd have to FTP your PS2 and put IM or the firmware on the MC, then boot it in Dev1 mode, which I'm not even sure is possible with the MI. Dunno to install IM on my v.4, I simply burned the CD and my PS2 booted it up fine, and I installed it no probs. If your PS2 can't read CD-R's, I don't see how your going to flash it without FTPing, which I don't know is permissable as far as firmware with the MI. You can install other apps via FTP, like HD Loader, PS2 Reality player, etc, I'm not sure about the firmware though.
