Help please! Used Alkohol's method of using DVDFab Express, then Vobblanker, then Shrink. This has worked fine for many movies like Legend of Zorro, Madagascar, Flightplan and others but not for White Noise & Crash. On both Shrink starts analysing and stops with the same error message
DVD Shrink has encountered an error & cannot continue - Programming error - exception occurred.
(on crash this happened at 60% analysing). Hit the Analysis icon on Shrink and it starts back up only to stop again with the following error message:
DVD Shrink has encountered an error & cannot continue. Failed to read file:c:\DVD Rip Folder\Crash\DVD\Video_TS\VTS_01_5.VOB Invalid access to memory location.
If I don't use VOBBlanker I get only this "failed to read file VTS_01_5" error message.
Anyone else having this problem or better yet have a work around suggestion? I have the latest versions of both DVDFAB Express & Vobblanker. Since I have successfully used Alkohol's guide for these programs on other movies, I'm stumped why it doesn't work for these. When I first tried the movie Crash, I didn't even have dvd43 or anydvd. After experiencing difficulty, I downloaded the trial of anydvd and tried running that & using DVDFAB Express. No success. Turned off anydvd and tried Alkohol's method again - same results. Really stuck with this one.
try turning off DVD43. both these movies as far as i remember need only DVD Shrink, however in your case i'd make sure everything else is off ie AnyDVD, DVD43 etc. then just use dvdfab decrypter (i haven't got express, just the free one) to grab entire discs to hard drive, then you'll be able to use DVD Shrink from there (you won't even need to bother with vobblanker - i very rarely have to use that, all i ever do for films that Shrink can't handle, is to use DVDDab Decrypter followed by Shrink)

I guess I was not clear enough about my steps in attempting to backup "Crash".
dvd43 & AnyDVD had never been downloaded to my system at first attempts
first - tried dvdfab decrypter, the free version (in original post I called this dvdfab express as that?s what it says when I open it up- but it is the free version 2.9.7.2)to copy to hard drive and then use shrink. Copies to HD with dvdfab successfully but when using shrink received "failed to read file VTS_01_5" error message
second - tried Alkohol's guide which includes the use of vobblanker as this had worked for other movies which had stumped dvdfab & shrink (Flightplan, Madascar, etc). received error message: "DVD Shrink has encountered an error & cannot continue - Programming error - exception occurred." third - downloaded trial version of AnyDVD and tried with this ? no success ? turned off AnyDVD
If it weren?t for the fact that I get the exact same file error on White Noise, I would think that I have a bad press of my original of "Crash".
If others have successfully copied ?Crash? or ?White Noise?, I would appreciate your sharing the programs and steps you used.
I have just encountered the same error message trying to open files with Shrink that I have ripped using Fab. I think all we need to do is download the latest release of Fab as in the release notes it mentions something about fixing a problem with Shrink. I have just tried my first rip since updating and the problem has gone.
