I had a DVD ROM drive and just bought a DVD RW drive and installed it. It's all good and works and so does the DVD ROM drive. Got DVD shrink installed. Went to try and burn a few movies and when I use the new Burner drive shrink will analyse the movie fine but when I go to back it up via the software it pauses, thinks and shrink just closes down with no error message.

If I repeat the same steps using the ROM drive with the movie in it, it analyses fine, let's me begin to encode the movie and then about 60% into it it errors out with a excpetion error and configuration error and forces me to close down shrink. I'm running windows XP. Everything is up to date with the OS. I've searched the forum for ideas but can't find any. Any ideas? The DVDs are Sony DVD-Rs. It's not the movie because it's done it to every one i've tried.

Try uninstalling/reinstalling. That is a very odd problem considering everything is 5 by 5.

Here are the reasons I've heard Shrink shutting down for.

1)dusty insides, so take those cans that you get at staples or whatever and clear the dust out.

2)insufficient power supply

3)not enough ram.

I don't know which one will word try the reinstall though.

If it is a "newer" movie, it may be do to Shrink's inability to properly decrypt the movie's protection schemes....

Try ripping to your HDD with DVDFab decrypter first, get it here:
http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

Then use shrink to open the files and process as usual.
