The total compression of dvd shrink is around 4,460. Is there a way to reduce it further down to like 4,200 so that it will not reach the edge of the disk. What i notice is that if the compression is at the edge of the disc, most of the time it stops before the movie ends.
I am using Ritek Ridata to burn movies that i own.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Part of you problem may be that Rytek is actually a low quality blank media. A lot of times, people who use this brand of disc will experience problems while burning or playing movies near the end (closer to the edge). I use Verbatim DVD+R & DVD+R DL discs and I have never encountered that problem. Also, as the burning process is technically going at a different speed at the edge of the disc, it might be that the speed you burn at could be too fast. It's always best to burn 8X max. DVD's at 4X etc.
To answer your question, you should be able to increase the compression of you main title in DVD shrink selecting the compression tab, choosing custom compression in the drop down and either manually entering a lower percentage in the box or scrolling down that percentage with the scroll bar on the right. By doing this, you will see the total size of the disc reduced on the meter at top. However, keep in mind this will further affect the quality of the picture.

Always use good quality blank media. Verbatim is always a good call. Don't be seduced by those 50-spindles you find in the $2.99 bin at your local car wash! :)

If you go in "preferences" and set the target size to "Custom", about 4350MB, Shrink will automatically adjust the compression for you.
You can also do what Nick says, and this way compress the menus and extras to maximum and get less compression for the main movie.
If you do "Movie Only", you can use the cut function and take out the credits at the end of the movie also. You can get nother couple hunded MB this way.

I think what you mean is can you permanently set the target DVD size to say 4200 MB instead of 4464 MB, and the answer is yes, you can.
Here's how:
Open DVD Shrink, go to Edit, then Preferences. Under Target DVD Size select Custom, then type in whatever max size you want and hit ok. Now every time you oped DVD Shrink that setting will still be there. Hope that helps.

Also I forgot the other question:
Quote: Ritek Ridata is one of the best quality disc on the market
There are some people here that will say they have had great results with Ritek, and that is great media. Some will say is second grade media, first being of course Taiyo Yuden and Verbatims. Maxell Made in Japan are considered also very good media. Maxell MIT that I use, they also code as Ritek, and I am having no problems so far.
With FW up to date you should be okay. I would actually slow down the burn speed.

I leave the compression settings as is, I mostly do just main movie back-ups though. I also take out EVERYTHING that is unnesessary, different audio stream languages, subtitles, ect...I also use Sony DVD-/+R's, MIJ >.<
