What is the purpose of analyzing? I always open disc or file then back up but have heard people talk about analyzing also, should I do that?

There's 2 different analyzations in dvd shrink:

1)When you put a new title-a dvd that you haven't backed up yet-and click open disc. This is a small, quick analysis, then opens up to your movie files.1-3 minute jobbie.

2)The other analyzation is if you are using dvd shrink quality enhancements is the Deep analysis in the backup options quality tab.
When you click backup/ok and you see the analyzation before the encoding: It means there is compression on that backup and you have the quality enhancement/s ticked= Backup/OK/Analyzation/encodes/and then burns.

If after you click backup/ok and no analyzation- Either no compression is on that future backup copy or you have the quality enhancement/s of deep analysis unticked. Backup/OK/Encodes/and then burns.

When you make another copy by clicking Open files, the first copy will do another quick analysis. This title is already compressed down to size,so those quality enhancements will be grayed out. Click backup/OK/then it'll start encoding then burning.

In accordance with what Saugmon said, basically, running a deep analysis in Shrink before encoding your backup will help preserve the quality of the picture if it needs to be compressed.

Always use good quality blank media. Verbatim is always a good call. Don't be seduced by those 50-spindles you find in the $2.99 bin at your local car wash! :)

The main reason why people/members performed "Deep Analysis" is to enhance the pictures quality in results. If you're the few/half that owned any 50" or higher HDTV, then you'll be a happy camper in the end.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

So this is my best bet for King Kong cause I'm not to impressed with my copy compared to the original if you look close you can see some light flickering.

Try Compression settings after you've analyzed. Your best bet is to do "Main Movie" and forget about all of teh other crap such as trailers, commercials, director crap, outtakes. Foreign subs and audio. Depending on what you remove from your backup is what you will get back in compression, ie. a better quality of movie. You can also change how specifically you would like the quality in quality settings prior to burning, (ie sharper, smoother etc.)

Light flickering in King Kong:

That's some major compression. I did main movie only, cut out most of ending credits/and AC3 5.1 ch English sound stream only.

In DVD Shrink,I used Max smoothness and deep analyzis because I still had over 45% compression.Yuden000-T02 media burned at 8x and perfect picture on my 32" sharp TV.

It took 3 and a half hours, but well worth it.

More compression, then I use the Deep analysis and Max Smoothness. For around 20% compression, I use Deep analysis and Max sharpness.
10% or less,I usually untick them.

A lot depends on the TV you play them in. Some low quality media will also give you playback issues.
