What Am I Doing Wrong?? Hi,Im freshy at all this! with regards to backing up!! after having opened disc and DVD Shrink finished analyzing, the bar at the top indicates to me that the movie is less than 4,464 MB.
I then attempt to click on Backup and an hour glass appears for a few seconds and then DVD Shrink completely shuts down and I go back to desk top. can anyone offer some advice What am I doing wrong??
Firstly, that target size is too big (although that's relative to the media you're using--what media are you using?). If you're using quality discs, you can live on the wild side and have the target size set to 4400. Otherwise, it's always better to be safe than sorry so 4300 is the best bet. To do this, go to Edit > Preferences > Target Size.
Anyway, you're problem may be related to the movie you're attempting to copy. What title is it? Some newer movies cause Shrink to close abruptly.

You're really not doing anything wrong, this is more that likely a copy protection issue. DVD shrink hasn't been updated for a long time and will not be, because of this, shrink alone can't handle the newer copy protection techniques placed on some of the newly released DVDs so you'll either get an error or it will simply quite on you.
Keeping it free:
Download a free ripper/decrypter called DVDFab decrypter and use it to rip the video files to your HDD, once it's done you should have a VIDEO_TS folder on your HDD, run DVD shrink and use it to open the files, click on the open files tab and browse to where the VIDEO_TS folder is located and choose it, shrink will open/import the files and should be able to proceed as usual from that point.
The other option is to use anydvd, its a driver that runs in the backround to crack the encryption and help shrink produce a backup. It's free for 21 days, if interested, check it out here;
Gentlemen and/or ladies.... Kudos and thanks for the guides first thing. I've been able to get going using the guides from BBMayo, ScubaPete's, Doom9 and the info gleaned from these forums. Thank you. I've been using DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink to backup several of my daughters movies and have run into some error messages that I can't figure out for the life of me. It seems the harder I look, the more cornfuzed I get. I've been using ScubaPete's guides to copy just the movie so I'm using DVDD to rip and Shrink to re-author and Decrypter to burn. Now in Shrink 3.2 after hitting backup where I select the target image file location, I send it to the folder I created in advance where Decrypter placed it's iso. file after ripping, but Shrink doesn't like to send it's iso. file to the same location. The error message reads: The folder you specified is the same as the source folder. Please select different folder." I came up w/a workaround and added a sub folder titled Shrink ISO. to get going, but I can't see what I'm doing wrong?!
I also get an error in Decrypter right before it starts to burn stating: Unable to lock volume for exclusive access: Now I understand that this is to keep other programs from detracting Decrypter, but I have virus,anti-spyware,and all other proggies off. I've walked away before the message appears to come back 1/2hr. later to find that not much has happened in my absence. hehehehe dopey me...
And if I may ask one more question? I'm aware that there will be no upgrading of both of these proggies, so I'm looking for another resource. I've downloaded Nero 6.6 and 7something trials along w/a offline installer or such, but can't get them to install. WTF? over?
I'm also confused about CloneDVD2. According to ScubaPete there are two flavors, Elby and non Elby, and I've seen posts in these forums that favor the one w/popcorn. I've found an Elby website that sells what looks like the same as SlySoft, but has the popcorn version if you will. Are they one in the same? Thanks in advance....

Checked for a reply this a.m. and couldn't find my thread. I borked my post and must of hit reply after reading Monaro1's post. If a moderator passes by could you put my question in the proper pace? (hopes that's not in the trash)
Excuse my error, been some time since posting to a forum and thought it better to ask all questions in one post instead of posting to 3 different areas. For next time, how should have I gone about this? I did read the forum rules and searched for answers, but no luck. Thanks agin!
