Hey guys great thread here, though I have a question,
Im watching mkv files on my ps3 through an external hardrive, I understand the m2ts process and use tsMuxer for that. I had an issue with audio before were the dts file wouldnt play any audio on my ps3, so I converted that in ac3 and now it works fine. Though Ive download other mkvs the audio works but a have a black screen??
The video files are the same as the others that I watch accorind to my ps3 there all avc so why do some work and others black screen. for exmaple this file Inside.Man.2006.1080p.HDDVD.x264-SZ.mkv the audio works but the video does not any reason why or how I can fix this. Im using meGui, and tsMuxer.

If by chance your BD disc is a seamless branching BD (main movie on several m2ts files) there are no demuxers that can properly fix the gaps/overlaps and demux to TrueHD, this could be why your track is "not clean". However eac3to can do this for LPCM, so demuxing the TrueHD track to LPCM, then converting that track to FLAC will most certainly fix your issue.

The movie is Tropic Thunder. i'm pretty sure it isn't a seamless branching disc since there's only one version of the movie on the disc. there is just one m2ts file for the movie it looks like. i really am not sure how to transcode to FLAC directly from the disc in my drive using eac3to. cause when i browse the blu-ray's disc directories to find the true hd file i can't find it under eac3to gui. i have a idea tho. i am restarting the process. here is what i did so far that i know is correct. if you can please bear with me can you tell me what i should do next cause i think i'm doing something wrong in the part after this...
~under tsmuxer, i add the main movie m2ts (largest size one) i remove all the m2ts files under sources except the ones with the codecs H.264 and TRUE-HD and then demux to my desired directory on the hard drive. (Keep in mind i didn't click in TsMuxer the option to "downconvert to AC3") now i have a 264 file that's 20.1 GB size and a file that's listed as AC3 (but i'm sure is the true hd audio but listed as ac3 in windows explorer) with a size of 3.52 GB.~
can you please tell what i do next? or guide me to where i can find help? thanks.

Use the latest version of MeGUI. MeGUI now uses eac3to to demux, and transcode. There should be a link in the very first post in this thread. Use it, and run the update after you install it to check for a newer version.
Once you are set up, load your ripped BD folder as the input, set your output folder... check the TrueHD audio stream and set it's output to FLAC.
Before you run eac3to you may need to do some configurations, like setting the program paths that are custom to your PC.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear on my first attempt at helping you. You need to go to Tools --> HD Stream Extractor.
-Load the whole BD rip folder.
-Set the output folder
-Click once on the main movie m2ts line... it should analyse.
Now you can select your tracks and their respective extensions. TrueHD (in Blu-ray) should have the extension THD+AC3. At this point you can select the TrueHD track, and set it's extension to FLAC, and it will transcode for you. Once everything is finally demuxed you will need to remux to MKV, with either MeGUI's muxer or mkvtoolnix (mkvmerge)

it's ok. ok i tried to do what you said above. but there was a few things that didn't work on my end. first when i loaded up my BD rip folder (where i store the m2ts file, a 264 file i made, and the truehd file which i ripped all from the blu-ray using tsmuxer.) it didn't list anything at the bottom. only if i open the file itself (the m2ts file) i get the listings for the streams it contains. i do what you say with extracting the TrueHD stream to FLAC but it keeps stopping around the 17-18% point and it makes a alarm sound for a second signaling it was a failure. however if i put the input up top as the m2ts directly from the blu-ray and choose flac below for truehd it extracts to 100% after. is that a good idea to use the stream directly sourced from the blu-ray instead of using a ripped m2ts source? i didn't notice tho my blu-ray drive reading the disc when it was doing this tho. anyway after i got the flac TrueHD rip and tried remuxing it into a mkv using mkvmerge it still was outta sync. here's the two logs i saved from this all:

Is your computer up to the task of playing high bit rate material? I noticed it took 1hr40min to demux/transcode, that's quite a bit.
I don't convert to FLAC, nor play my movies on my PC... so at this point I'm not sure how it should look or sound.

yeah i'm pretty sure. i mean my blu-ray drive in my computer (which i installed myself - it didn't come with the computer) plays my blu's on there pretty good. i use powerdvd latest for that. rarely do i encounter problems playing those or mkv's (the ones that i don't make myself of course). i was able to figure this all out back in January somehow but i forgot to take notes when i figured it out. but then again when i did it i split the movies into 2 or 3 parts. could that be it? i may have had some stuff running the background when i demuxed/transcoded but if i did it was running in the corner on the taskbar (Vista). here's my specs:

Not sure if this is the right area but I have a ( LG GGW-H20L ) and I ripped a blueray to my hard drive (Wanted) with anydvd hd then i used bd rebuilder v0.20.07 (beta) and did the movie only back up on ( highest very slow encoder settings with bd-25 ) it took 10 hours. I have Ffdshow rev610_20061201_clsid.exe and MatroskaSplitter.exe. I also have a brand new machine with a AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor and a MB BIOSTAR TA790GXB A2+ 790GX AM2+ then i used image burn and created an image file from files/folders and after that was done i wrote the image file to blank 25gb blu-ray disc at 2x. But it wont play on my sony BDP-S350 any idea's?? thanks for all help....

Well, first and most of all, "Wanted" movie only fits on a 25Gb bd-r with one audio track just fine. No need for Bd Rebuilder.
Why yours does not play I don't know. Try to disable 24f in your player if it is on.

hmmm it fits on a 25gb just fine? well im new to this how can i check every movie to see if it fits? is this where you go into the Stream folder and find the bigest m2ts file?? if so when i find the biggest file then what?? I guess im confused on when to use bd rebuilder?? thanks for your help....

Use BDInfo to scan the disk and see how big the main movie is. If it is juts a little biger than what fits on a bd-r but has several audio tracks, use tsmuxer to strip the movie of unwanted tracks etc and output the relust as blu-ray. Then burn.

It is for times when the movie is too big and can not fit on 25Gb Bd-r even with one audio track, or if you want to back up the whole disk and put it on a BD-r, or even DVD.

storage hard drive - 1.36 TB capacity (70.1 GB left)
i can play flac good on my machine. and the mkvs i made that had the sound flaws that i told you about looked and sounded great just until it reached this point about a hour thru. then the image would distort for like 20 seconds (but still run) and then go back to normal and then the sound would be off sync from there on. it's gotta be something i'm doing wrong with the sound ripping part.
At this point I'm not sure how much more I can help. I rip/play my BDs as-is, or from BD-RE, or external HDD on my PS3... never on my PC.
it's ok pal. i learned some stuff from you tho. i guess i'll just have to wait till i get my PS3 to run my hi-def stuff. see the reason why i wanted to know how to get this mkv to work was that i didn't have a blu-ray player for my new HDTV. just on my computer. i was gonna stream the mkv's to my tv thru TVersity. but i can wait longer to play my blu's on my HDTV. thanks for the help you've given me odin.

If you're strapped for cash, and cannot really afford a BD player right now I have a buddy that has a Western Digital WDTV player. It plays MKVs in full 1080p with HD audio... LPCM and FLAC (I think). He really likes it... I've seen it as low as $150 CDN.
Or check out the LG370 player that is was just released. It plays BDs obviously, and MKVs!!!. It also plays HD audio from DVDs, if you decide to recode and shrink 1080p content to fit on a DVD9. I do this for my PS3.

hmm interesting. i will research these players. thanks for the tip. let me ask you tho odin, is PS3's as good as everyone says they are? i mean i do like a lot the fact that they have constant firmware updates for the latest features added to the system. i was gonna wait till they have that rumored price drop to $300 on the PS3. i believe it's for the 60 GB model. i like having the best and have top of the line quality in my home entertainment. i keep hearing people rave about PS3 being one of the best blu-ray players out there.

Here's the deal... I love my PS3, cause it's perfect for my situation. I have a BD burner, I rent alot, but I do not have much time to watch my movies.... nor do I want to spend a fortune on BD blanks... or re-writables (I have a few though).
What I do is archive all of my rips (main movie only) on my 1TB external, I use AVCHD Mananger (search Doom9 forum for info) and play directly from my external HDD to my PS3, no streaming. There's no recoding involved at this point, I keep the untouched video and HD audio and mux using tsMuxeR splitting @ 4GB chunks, cause the PS3 only recognizes FAT32 drives, which have a limit of 4GB per file. I delete them afterwards, or archive them to DVD9 if I can compress without losing quality. If it's a keeper and I cannot compress I'll wait and buy used.
If my PS3 ever broke down I'd be screwed!!! I'd like a standalone too for the wife and kids cause the PS3 is way beyond them.

So i have a question i tried to do what you said with quantum of solace but i couldnt get it under 25gb, so would I use bd rebuilder to compress it in this case??

It is for times when the movie is too big and can not fit on 25Gb Bd-r even with one audio track, or if you want to back up the whole disk and put it on a BD-r, or even DVD.

i have a BD burner as well. i also rent a lot too (Netflix). i've never burned onto a BD blank yet tho. one 25 GB one came with my burner tho but i wanna save it for something i really need burnt that fits that capacity. but personally when i rent something or rip something i like to have all that was on the disc like the extras. so if i were to rip just the movie i would miss the extras. that's just me tho. i will check out that AVCHD manager proggy anyway. i plan on selling alot of stuff like comics on Craigslist soon so hopefully after i get done with that i will have the money for a PS3. cause i really like what i hear and read about them.
thanks for sharing that info with me odin. even tho you couldn't solve my problem with the mkv thing you've still been a big help.

No prob. Double check your BD that came with your drive, it might be a BD-RE (re-writeable).
