iam trying to back up [hostage] reagion 1 iam using xp home,decrypter
3.5.4.0,shrink 3.2 and nero 6.6 everything works fine until i hit backup after shrink gets done analyzing,no errors just disappears.
any ideas would be helpful.
This is more that likely a copy protection issue. DVD Shrink hasn't been updated for a long time and will not be, because of this, shrink alone can't handle the newer copy protection techniques placed on some of the newly released DVDs so you'll either get an error or it will simply quite on you.
Keeping it free:
Download a free ripper/decrypter called DVDFab decrypter and use it to rip the video files to your HDD, once it's done you should have a VIDEO_TS folder on your HDD, run DVD Shrink and use it to open the files, click on the open files tab and browse to where the VIDEO_TS folder is located and choose it, shrink will open/import the files and should be able to proceed as usual from that point.
The other option is to use AnyDVD, its a driver that runs in the backround to crack the encryption and help shrink produce a backup. It's free for 21 days, if interested, check it out here;
What version of Nero 6.6. are you using? If it is 6.6.1.4 it's link with shrink is broken. Go back and find the files and burn manually they should still be on HDD where shrink put them. Go back to Nero version 6.6.0.18.
You're right about nero version 6.6.1.4, but he's not even getting that far, if shrink processed the files correctly and then tried to autoburn them to disk using nero version 6.6.1.4, he would of gotten a Error:\nCannot connect TRF message from nero.
It looks like a copy protection issue that shrink can't handle where shrink will analyze first and then begin the encoding process, it's likely shutting down during the encoding process. DVDfab or anydvd will get it done.
You're right. I just read it wrong. Seems like Shrink balks at the DRM protection before the prelim analysis. For me it never got to the back up option if protected. It always froze when I hit open disc? Of course nothing freezes now with AnyDVD. You seemed to have covered the bases so I'm outa here. You're in good hands flyboy.
My friend had the same issue with shrink and he un-installed it and then re-installed and it now works fine. Now that might not be the issue with yours, but his shrink was doing the exact same thing when he would click on backup after analysing it would exit out with no errors, etc. As the others have said it could also be the new type protections. Hope that is all that is wrong with yours. He also has updated his firmware after buying a new DVD drive. I use DVDfab, VobBlanker, and good ole Shrink......Good luck...
sorry guys i have a demanding job so its been awhile.as you know i
unistalled Nero 6.6 and installed 6.0.iam told Nero has to be installed before versions of decrypter or shrink.i havent done this yet,because i have backed up about 50 titles with no problems.and i dont want it to quit working.but iam all so told Nero 6.0 is buggy.

I have had this problem with a disk here and there, not sure what i did to get things to work. I use 2 computers and if one doesnt work i move to the next. I have noticed that my laptop dvd drive seems to only want to copy about half the dvd's i try. Any analysis on it says there is no problems with it. I highly doubt that this is the problem for you though (think its more for crc errors).
