If you tell me what you did in Nero I'll try to help...
(bring all the files over)?
You need to drag & drop all .VOB .IFO .BUP files into the VIDEO_TS folder in Nero Burning Rom

You need to read guides before blundering ahead
7.2Gb is not going to burn to disc [full stop]
DVD-R (+R) is only 4.37Gb in size
If you compress your files with DVD Shrink (which is free) or DVD2One (I use this but it costs £30) then you can bring the size down to 4.36Gb so as to fit on a blank DVD R
You will need to rip the movie again though as you didn't rip the needed .IFO file (DVD2One will produce .BUP file on compression)

I use 3 very easy programs:
1. DVD Decrypter
2. DVD2ONE
3. Nero Express
I just started this about 3 weeks ago backing up my DVD collection.
At this point in the game, I'm ONLY going for the movie and NO extras.
I get the movie and the picture quality.
These three programs does it for me and depending on the size of the movie it takes anywhere from 20 to 35 minutes per program to complete the job. I would use a "RW" just to make sure it's working for you before before burning to a DVD-R or +R. I have burned about 13 movies so far with NO failures. I too have a Sony DRU-500AX.

Mahogany,
Start fresh!!!
Step 1. Use DVD Decrypter, it will automatically pick the main movie files. ( Something I have noticed is that if the DVD has both formats meaning widescreen or fullscreen, the Decrypter will automatically pick the widescreen. I think it's because of the of the way the files are labeled when they are burned to the orginal DVD.
Anyway, once the files are automatically highlighted by DVD Decrypter, hit run and Decrypter will save the files to the hard drive.
2 Close DVD Decrypter and start DVD2ONE.
Click on the select button for the source and find the folder that DVD Decrypter just made.
Then click on that folder to get the folder inside that's labeled Video_TS. Now, click on that folder, and you're done with the source.
Next click on destination and pick a folder where you want the modified files to go.
Then hit start. When that's done close DVD2ONE because you don't need it anymore.
3. Start Nero Express (I say Nero Express because that's what I use, I suppose any burning program that burns to DVD will work).
Next in Nero Express you want to pick burn DVD Files to DVD. It will open another window that has an add files button. Click add files and goto the folder you saved the modified files at and select all of them. Next, click add and then click finish and the last thing you need to do is click burn.
I would use a "RW" a couple of times just to make sure you're doing it right. I have used the "RW" a couple of times and since haven't used it. I just backed up another 2 moives last night, Full Metal Jacket and Thirteen Days with no problems and a DVD picture quality. Gotta Love it.
Hope this helps

I'd agree wholeheartedly but I use Nero Burning Rom (much better than Nero Express)

Have you changed any settings in Decrypter?
Your .VOB files need to be 1Gb each (1024000)
If your doing 'Band of Brothers' you will need to select ALL files in Decrypter then FULL-DISK mode in DVD2One
(If you still have no joy , then try Smartripper to rip instead...I've been using it for the last 150 DVD's backed-up !: )

Can someone explain to me in terms an 8th grader can understand how to burn an image? Better yet. Can someone explain how to make a backup of a dvd using these tools ie
win XP Home,DVD Decrypter,RecordNowMax,DVD2ONE and Pioneer A05 burner? I only want the movie and of course the sound (english). No extras whatsoever. I have read til Im blue in the face and its all greek to me. If you can explain it to where an 8th grader could understand what to do, I would be forever in your debt. I am not the only one who has read tons of these forums and is totally confused. I have seen many others express this same feeling of bewilderment. The links to those How-to guides either use differnet tools, or they neglect a step here and there (assuming you know what the hell they are talking about). But if you can explain it like this ie
1. Insert movie dvd into pc dvd drive
2. Click on this or that
3. Select this or that
4. Do this or that etc etc
This is how I learned to reformat my pc without having to know what I was doing. A friend took the time to explain it to me step by step. True it took awhile for him to wait while I wrote it all down, but after that, he never had to show me again how to do it. Is this too much to ask?
Everyone (including the moderator in his faq has admitted it is very complicated. And I am going on 51 years of age. I don't think I will live another 50 years in time to finally understand what everyone is talking about.
Please, can anyone help!!!!
