Advent Children Copy Problems!

So I've bought Advent Children and everything is great. I'm trying to copy it for my friend using DVD Decrypter, but I get read errors at 7% and it just stops. It won't copy. So I tried other rippers, such as Nero Burning ROM (using AnyDVD to get rid of CSS), and it freezes after a while. Same read error? I then tried Nero Recode, and I get the error message:
"Nero Recode encountered an error and cannot continue.
An internal error occured. A VOBU address is out of bounds. This may be caused by an invalid DVD navigation structure."
But it plays fine in my DVD player, and on media player. So what's wrong? Is there anyway I can copy it? Please help

Anyone? I've found out it's sony's copy protection arccos. I've tried different guides but they are either too complicated, or don't work. Has anyone got this working? If it helps, this is the PAL version of Advent Children

Yes, I've managed to copy the disc by creating that PSL file. However, I can't get rid of the bad sectors. I need to get rid of them because I'm trying to put it on a DVD5 from a DVD9. AnyDVD doesnt get rid of these bad sectors - they just allow them to be copied (well, it doesnt with advent children on DVD Decrypter. used a different method instead).
How can I get rid of these bad sectors on advent children? none of the guides so far have worked. i get some error messages

That implies to me arccos. I'm not giving up on this. I'm going to try different methods.
But guys, note that it's not just being able to copy the disc, i need to fit it on a DVD5. I've managed to copy it, but it copies these bad sectors as well, and Recode2 and Shrink won't allow them.

If you have the latest version of AnyDVD, rip to HDD using AnyDVD's ripper and then process with either Recode or DVD Shrink.

AnyDVD gives me a read error at 7% (same with DVD Decrypter). Clicking Ignore (or whatever it is) makes it go incredibly slowly with an estimated time of over 3 hours, so I cancelled. What would clicking abort do? Would that stop the whole thing, or just skip the bad sectors? Or should I just carry on despite it being slow?

I backed up my copy yesterday using good ol Recode 2 and AnyDVD running in the background. I also made a 2nd copy using CloneDVD 2. Both did great and look awe-some. I know that my copy was NTSC, but perhaps download Dvd Fab Decrypter and see if that can get the contents of the movie to HD and then use Shrink. Just a suggestion.
Hope this can help get a successful backup.

Can anyone help me with the PAL version? I've tried Recode2 and Shrink with AnyDVD and both give me structural errors. I've tried DVDFabDecrypter, and Shrink/Recode won't accept the files made. That's because DVDFabD doesn't get rid of the bad sectors. It only allows them to be copied. This is my problem!

This works for all ARccOS movies. The Zorro Guide is the newest, so you should download that if you want to download one (you can ignore the Editing section which is advanced). Also, you can read through the last few posts because I made comments on the newer variants of ARccOS.
If you would like, you can upload the IFOs of your version and I can give you specific instructions. Drag and drop all the IFO Files from the Disc to your hard drive with AnyDVD disabled!!! Next put them in a zip or rar file. Then upload them to something like rapidshare.de
I can then take a look at them and give you specific instructions on what to do in IFO Mode.
Edit: Based on your AnyDVD log, this DVD may have a new variant of structure corruption. AnyDVD usually recognizes ARccOS as ARccOS/Puppetlock. I wonder if Sony came up with something new??

That's the guide I'm currently looking at. However, I don't know what cells are the extraneous ones. Tried leaving out all of chapter one apart from last cell, but that gave me an error, so I skipped it and am using the files obtained from using DVDFab. I'll let ya know the results of it. Not sure if it's going to work because of missing that step. Don't know how crucial it is.
EDIT: You can't be serious?! I'm not gonna let sony beat me! I can't believe no one else has posted anything about the PAL version of FF7AC

Well FixVTS is nearly finished. Anyone know what "Found VCID at....." is all about? I got them on nearly everyone.

Yes, just the IFOs.
As for FixVTS, all it is telling you is that it found a cell with Vob ID x and Cell ID y. So for instance "found VCID 1/5" means that it found a cell with VobID 1 and a cell ID of 5. This has to do with the VOB Structure and how things are referenced in the IFOs.
The found VCID at... means that it found this VCID at LBA xxxxxx. This is the position on the "disc". It should also have an out. If the In and out are the same then this means that FixVTS is not changing anything.
If it is changing the addresses or finding unreferenced cells, then FixVTS may solve your problem.

Well FixVTS didn't work. I even ran out of room for the backups! Only got 40GB hard drive with about 13GB at one any time. Been using my 20GB mp3 player for some things. Are these backups needed?
Anyways, I'll now rip the IFOs for you. Thanks for helping. I won't let it beat me!

Ok, The corruption seems to lie in 3 places. Open DVD Decrypter and go into IFO Mode.
Uncheck all cells from 1 through 43 in chapter 1. This leaves the last cell only.
now, uncheck Chapter 29. You are ripping the last cell of chapter 1 through chapter 28. NOT chapter 29!!! This is in VTS_01. If you want to keep Chapter 29 (it has blank video only), keep cell 73 only!!! However, you do not need this chapter.
Next do the strip streams/VobID option in IFOEdit using VTS_01_0.IFO. Strip VobID 1. This will remove the first 10 cells from the IFO. After this, you can process the movie with FixVTS and it should fix everything.
I will take a look at the rest of the disc, but is there anything else worth keeping??? On the US version there was the FF7 video game summary, but I threw that on Disc 2.
Also, VTS_33 is FAKE!!! Do not rip it!!

Thanks, I'll have a go. Will it matter that I run out of disc space with FixVTS because of the backups? I assume these backups are just the original unedited files, so shouldn't matter? Also, this disc does have the game footage called "Reminiscence of Final Fantasy VII" or something like that.

You can place a check on the "In Place" option and this will save on HDD space. Since you have the original, you do not need to make backups. It is better to have some free space when you do backups because then you can have bad results. I would strongly suggest you make backups of your mp3s and free up some space or get an extra Hard Drive.
Do you have the 2 disc version?? If so, you can swap the Reminiscence of Final Fantasy VII for something else. I replaced the Making of with it.
As for your backup, I do not think you have enough space. WHen you rip the disc only rip VTS_01 with the instructions I gave in my previous post. Do not rip the rest until after you finish correcting the movie. IFOEdit will save to a different folder than the original so you will have to manually drag and drop the files from the IFOEdit destination over the original files.

In that case, I would recommend you make a 2 disc backup. The Reminiscence of FF7 is about 1.1GB & the ending credits are about 1GB combined.
You are looking at half a disc right there. If you have a DVDR DL, then you can keep them on 1 disc.
After you take care of the main movie, you will then rip the rest of the disc using File mode.
You will select everything except for VTS_01. However, remember that you did not rip VTS_01_0.VOB, so that is the only VTS_01 file you should rip. Also, remember not to rip VTS_33.
I suggest you download MenuShrink and shrink the menus. this will save you about 400MB of space.

Thanks for all the help. I'm running the IFOEdit now.
And I'd like to keep the game footage. As for the other extras on disc 2, I'll just let my friend borrow the disc. You only ever really look at that disc once. Doesn't matter about the game footage taking a fair bit of space because I'm going to be using Recode2 to shrink it (or Shrink if that is better? any preferences?).
And at what point do I used menu shrink?

Menu Shrink should be run after you have BUP files. The way you get the BUP files is to either do a "Get VTS Sectors" with IFOEdit or Open the DVD in PGCEdit and save it. Do this after you fix the movie and rip the extra stuff as well.
If you do not have the BUPs, Menu Shrink will not be able to move files to the backup folder and quit before it is finished.
As for Shrink Vs Recode, They are about equal. Both are made by the same person, only Shrink is about 2 years old and Recode is current. Recode is about 3x faster at analysing so that is a bonus. It also encodes faster, but not by much.
Make sure you also check the "High Quality Slow Recording" Option in Recode as well as the "Advanced Analysis" option. This is the only way it is equal to or better than DVD Shrink.
Also, like I said, you can save tons of space by having the game footage on Disc 2. You can replace the "Making of Final Fantasy" with it. The making of is some footage with all the producers talking about it. It is about 35 minutes long. I don't know if you want to keep that thing, but if not, swapping would be the best. No matter how much you compress the Game Footage, it will still take out at least 10% from the main movie. For instance, mine compresses to 89.2% or about 82% if I keep the Japanese audio.
Also, you probably do not want the ending credits. You should run this movie at least through VobBlanker to get rid of those as well as all the warnings. The ending credits are the ones that are about 10 minutes long. Remember that there were 2 on the Region 1 version, so there may be 2 on the Region 2 as well.
