One day my V9 PAL console started to make a strange buzzing noise sometimes when playing games. It only got worse and after a few days it just died, since then I've never been able to load ANY disc. The console was unused when I bought it and it was pre-modded with a "Magic (something)" modchip i think. I used the console for around 1 year before it "died" about 8 months ago (I haven't really bothered trying to get it fixed until now).
I've uploaded a .wav sound of the noise my PS2 makes after turning it on. I had a disc inside while recording (when it's no disc inside it only makes the noise right after the PS2 is turned on, then it stops). The sound in the end of the .wav is when I turn off the console. Here's the URL for the sound file: http://media.putfile.com/Sound-of-my-PS2
Also I have one question, do I need any soldering/electro skills to replace the laser?
I don't know much else to say. I don't know anything about soldering/electronics, and I dont have any tools either.

could be the chip or it could be the laser.
Adjusting and cleaning the laser would be my first steps
if that did not work it may be the chip.
The Magic V chips from what i have read are junk.
It is a $10 chip so i am not sure what people really expect from it.
some V9's are also know for having some laser problems as well.
A laser fix could help with that when you get a new laser.
They are about $10. I think you need to solder to replace the laser, and for sure on the chip or laser fix.
You might want to have it looked at by a pro, after trying the laser cleaning and adjustment.

my ps2 is doing the same exact thing not sure what version I could go check but I haved a magic 3 modchip that has already been repaired once less than a year ago, so should i bother with the chip or focus my attention on the laser?

That sounds horrible! There are some gears in the drive, maybe they're out of whack. I've also heard of problems with the drive nub being broken but, I haven't experienced that myself.

i have had all the problems u can imagine in my ps2 but now it works fine
that sound i heard could be one of 2 either the lens is incorrectly positioned or the edge of the cd is colliding with the plastic door inside,in both cases u should 1-unscrew ur ps2 and open it 2-slowly remove the cover not to fuc* the ribbon 3-you'll see 2 sections the one on the right is the drive its gonna have 4 small screws ,unscrew them
4-once u remove the cover you'll see the lens and the place were the cd lies first you'll notice a bar that is incharge of moving the lens rotate it clockwise till u see the lens can't move anywhere to the bottom 5-test it by placing the cover of the drive (no need 2 screw it)
if it doesn't then shut the ps2 while the drive is open u'll see a small white gear that bastard is most likly to be ur problem rotate it a small bit and test if not repeat rotating and test u should also
look for guide for cleaning the lens i've seen good ones

I think he's talking about the worm gear on the side of the laser, its a spiral grooved metal rod, it moves the laser back and forth. The laser should be all the way toward the front. The other thing is a small gear behind the laser that you can only see about half of.

I think you want to move it so that the laser is all the way toward the front, this is the starting position for it.

It could be but you're supposed to turn the gear to move the laser, not move the laser to turn the gear.

when the white thing underneath the CD drive slides over the whole thing drops real deep and the laser becomes blocked is it possible that this is happening when i turn it on

The white thing is there to lift the laser into position as the drive slides close, using just one motor to accomplish both. If this is out of position it will lift the laser too soon and prevent the drive from closing. I don't think this is going to cause any strang noises as it only operates for about half a second when you open or close the drive. I do (now) remember hearing of a problem with modchipped consoles making a strange noise and you might want to check the main board fuses just in case.
