I keep reading posts where people mention encoding/burning a DVD in under 1hr. If my compression is below 80% it takes 1-2 hours, sometimes over 3hrs. I have 2 GIG of memory, a Pentium 4 and it still seems slower than dirt. Any ideas why it is taking so long?

@Pariah
Make sure in DMA Mode and not PIO mode.
Do you have any of the quality enhancements checked in Shrink?
Is the option to run shrink in low priority mode checked?
Are you doing anything else while encoding/burning?

I rip to the HD with something other than Shrink (usually Decrypter, DVD Fab is my fallback for more recent stuff). So, when I run Shrink it is mostly from my HD, so PMA shouldn't be an issue should it? (HD are PMA aren't they?).

I do have "Run Analysis and Backup in Low Priority Mode To Improve Multi-tasking" checked on the Preferences tab. I rarely multi-task though when Shrink is running...I usually start it and walk away, go to sleep or elsewhere for awhile. Should I uncheck it?

I have Enable Video Preview checked to watch encoding, does that affect speed?

I have Perform Deep Analysis checked (I know this adds about 20 minutes, but supposedly is needed for compression quality).

I have Compress Video With High Quality Adaptive Error Compensation checked and in the drop down box I've selected Sharp (default). I probably should change that to Maximum Sharpness. What do you think? Mostly I do backups of TV series DVDs.

Under Backup Options Tab I also have Run Backup in Low Priority Mode checked. Should I uncheck?

Burn Speed is Maximum in drop down (mainly 8x DVD+Rs, sometimes 16x).

Any recommendations?

DMA mode is direct memory access for your drives. Check the mode for all the drives.
I don't think the preview option would make much of a difference.
I would uncheck 'run in low priority' - will help some.
Both quality enhancements are taking the longest.
Most people that do it in less time don't have these enhancements checked. I don't BUT the largest TV I may watch on is 37" so I see no real difference. Each person is different w/ their set ups.
