I used DVD Decrypter to rip files to my hard drive. I opened DVD Shrink and everything was going fine until it started to encode (shrink?) the files. It got up to about 4% (at which it was estimating about 24 minutes) and then the progress slowed down incredibly but the time estimation kept rising. In the end, it was estimating over 5 hours by the time the progress was around 12%.
I cancelled the operation. Can anyone tell me if there are other things I can do to prepare the files for encoding besides the decryption? The original concert DVD is a little over 7 gig and DVD Shrink shrunk it down to a little over 4 gig. I have an older computer with 500 Mhz processor and 384 Ram. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

I don't really have good news for you about speeding it up with those pc specs. You can shut down any unneccessary processes and make sure you're not multi tasking.
If you have any of the quality enhancements checked in shrink uncheck them (some difference in quality depending on the tv your watching it on).
A few years ago I used a IBM Aptiva w/ windows 2000 to do back ups. It was like 500 mhz and 256 ram. 7 gigs took about 2- 3 hours. All this pc had on it was the os, Nero, shrink, xcopy and decrypter -no internet, no antivirus - that was it. Shrink from what I remember started out w/ a low time then jumped out then went down some - still close to 3 hrs to finish.
Just my 2 cents but it may be time to upgrade to a faster pc.

Make sure that your DMA is enabled via this guide compliments of alkohol:

this work for me and it might work for you, also check your settings for your dvd shrink. Enabling stuff or checking them could make it run slower.

I agree with binkie7, it won't really make much of a difference whether or not DMA is enabled, the PC is old and most likely very tired..LOL... It's time for an upgrade.
