Right after the E3 Press Conference from Sony
they said $599 for the 60 gig hard drive.

Though I looked up the 2.5 60 gig hard drives and they average around $75.99 to $89.99 thats 20 to 10 dollars cheaper buying it off somewhere else. Not only that but what if in the future someone cracks it and puts a larger hard drive with 80 or 100 then what should you do with the spare 60.

Though there is a possibility that sony will do that DNAS verification and check each hard drive if its a 3rd party device installed.

So therefor it narrows it down for games to become backups or pre-installed on hdd's, or any software to crack sony's operating system to enable games to read. There might be updates every month for users online to play.

Will it be even possible for PS3 to become custom?

seeing how open the ps3's software development will be i'm sure that they will install dnas into the ps3 and you will have to register your hdd's serial number online with it
