wow all these price wars are insane this forum is making 2 points of view
#1 ps3 is for rich sony fan boys and 360 is for everyday people
#2 360 is for cheap kids who cant afford to have fun gaming
dont make this post a littel war thread like the others its just to have people think about what they are saying and chill out over all the hipe
well actually to get some meaning out of this thread post here if you own xbox and ps2 yust to show that probably 25% of gamers are going to buy both

first of all $400 is alot of money to spend for everyday people. the every day gamer wants a ps2. also the ps3 is only $200 more.
the ps3 is not for the rich gamer it's for the hardcore gamer.
also the ps3 has alot of things built in that you need for x360.
external hddvd and wifi, seperate controller charger, = $720
a ps3 with a 60 gig harddrive = $600
ps3 is an investment because alot of the specs in the ps3 are going to be the current gen of dvd, tv, game processor, graphix chip. etc will be big in 3 years.
but the x360 is better for right now.

Wait. Why you stated that the PS3 is for rich people?
Car cost more than the PS3, and now car is for only rich people as well?
I dont know why Microsoft is in a hurry to released the consoles. Not all games not even fun on it.
PS3 has bluetooth. I think XBOX360 doesn't. That is the best part of the PS3 , the "Bluetooth".

Seriously why is the bluetooth the best part of the console? What does it do to make gaming more fun and practical?
To mee it is one of thoes useless features included in the console which drives up the price. It has 7 USB slots, whoop di fricken doo. I have never needed to use more than one on my 360. And seven controllers, yeah because that will work really well on a tv screen. The only game that can really function with that many controllers is mario party and wait, that is on the Wii.

your numbers are way off becasue you cant just assing a random price for the HD-DVD external drive.CAnt assume anything considering the ps3 has a Blu-ray player in it which alone is a grand and the total of the ps3 of is only $600.If you buy the premium pack at 400 and get the wi-fi...lets start up a chart of what u said
"external hddvd and wifi, seperate controller charger, = $720 "
xbox 360 premium=399.99
wi-fi + 99.99
sep. controller + 49.99
charger + 19.99
external HD-DVD +??????
thats about $580.00 with tax DR.
and as far as the external HD-DVD you or i both dont know the price and it an option not all of us feel the need to have it and then go on to spend 40bucks a movie for that same blu-ray/hd-dvd player.I know u can use reg dvd's but if ur getting the new player why wouldnt one get the new blu-ray/hd-dvd players.

people bitch about the ps3's price but when you get a hard drive and a hddvd drive which most people will buy theyre already paying more than 600 bucks
hd dvd + hdd = $350
xbox 360 core= $300-400
hdvd= $250
xbox 360 premium= 400
your paying at least 650 dollars for no wireless and a 20gb crap hdd
not including all the other features
SO WHY BITCH
currently have these consoles
Gamecube
Xbox
Ps2
Dreamcast
Phantom
Gba
psp

Because who are you to assume that people will buy the external drive?Hd-dvd players have been out for a little while now and they arent flying off shelves so y assume they will for the when alot of owners got it for its great gaming and cheap price and becasue they didnt want to blow all that money for a frankenstein gaming/movie playback machine. Its just an option and ps3 is struggling getting their hardware even ready...I.E
http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=55968
ps3 and sony arent making gaming developers happy with there slow progress hardware wise.
plus that confirmation of the price of the external drive isnt on any other major xbox site so id say its about as believable as the confirmation of the ps3 price in playstaion magazine in ps magazine...

Dont tell me what to say! Im not even into dvd players just for the same reason i wont be into bluray/hd-dvd formats becasue they get replaced to quickly to build up a collection and have new expensive format come out and overtake it.DVD format was supposed not to pull a vhs and guess what it did?especially at the price they are chariging for the movies just fo rthe hi-def upgrade they are more than doubling the price which is nuts.Try to get a mind of your own

thats a really dumb assumption to think that everyone will go buy it
i for one wont buy one, i see nothing wrong with dvd quality, its perfectly fine to me
the only way i would buy a hd-dvd player or blu-ray player is if they come out for a burner eventually, even then im not gonna use it to watch hd but to back up 4-5 dvds on it.

" sowhy do they charge so much?"
ummm, what are you talking about? I was talking about Blu-ray discs, not the Blu-ray player. the Blu-ray palyer is so expensive because it is a new technology and it is not cheap to produce, but ive heard Blu-ray discs are very inexpensive to make, and the only reason games would be 60 is because of development costs.

I am not going to sit here and argue like you dorks about which HD format will win. I really don't care. I don't buy DVDs now, and I don't plan on buying HD DVDS or Blu rays but what I will do a lot is rent those types of format. Think about TV shows. Lots of them are in HD now a days and with Bray you will be able to fit many more episodes on one disk than an HD DVD. Id rather be able to go to blockbuster and rent one Blu ray disk that has close to a whole season of Curb or Sopranos than have to get 3 disks at once, possibly multiple nights cause it's not in stock. Same with non HD shows. Sex in the city is like 30 DVDs. Id bet they could fit the whole season on 2 double layer Blu Rays. Also with movies, more content available on one disk. It's all about size baby and Blu ray wins that battle considerably.

true that
15gb= hd dvd.
25gb = Blu-ray.
should i mention Blu-ray has 80% of the movie companies supporting Blu-ray.
the allmighty mudearies...
79% Sony Fanboy , 10% xbox fanboy , 11% Kidtendo fanboy.

That is true.
But doesn't the DVD Association support HDDVD?
Also, HDDVD still has backing from Universal, Warner, Paramount, Toshiba, LG and Fujitsu Siemens.
It could still be possible for HDDVD to win, all is needed is for people to look at PRICE VS QUALITY. Surely, you are clinging on to the hope that it's no the size that matters?

Lets be honest the ps3 is going to be a GREAT console but not worth the hefty price tag.A bonus feature and thats what the Blu-ray player in the ps3 is a bonus feature should not cost or drive the system price up 200dollars.That is the only thing the 360 doesnt have that the ps3 does have.If you get the premium pack and get the wireless adapter your only spending a little over $500 which is over a hundered dollars less than the ps3.ANd if your talking about the "core" ps3 it is a horrible deal and in the end if u upgrade it it costs by far more for the 360 and cant even play the movies in 1080p like any Blu-ray player should be able to .I think its sony who cut corners while MS gave options to their fans.

Hey Rik, what about free internet for the PS3? If it is not better than Xbox live, I can bet it will be almost as good. And for free?? Over the course of a 3-4 years that you will have your console, Your 360 will actually cost you more man. Look I have a 360 and I love it. but I am also getting a PS3 and I am sure it will be getting much love as well.
You need to get over your bitterness and look at the bright side of things with Sony. A lot of people can agree and even deep down you probably can, that the bright side will be alot better than the dark side. Not getting the PS3, for anyone who considers themselves a "real" gamer, is a huge mistake.

I don't really want the bluray player and that is what is driving the PS3 price up so much. It would be like me walking into McDonalds and ordering a Big Mac and being charged an extra $200 since it only comes with a large portion of the finest caviar. I don't want the caviar, I just want the hamburger. That is what Sony is trying to do, force the bluray into homes to win the battle for the living room, whether you want it or not. What if Bluray doesn't win the next gen DVD battle? Then you have a Bluray player that is pretty much useless except for playing PS3 games, and you paid a $200 premium for it. Also looking at Sony's track record for pushing it's proprietary formats on people and the limited success they have had (UMD, Memory Stick, ATRAC, Minidisk) doesn't make me want to pay extra.

Great analogy Xian.I love how sony has got all their fans in a daze thinking that this free online service will match up with xbox live which has taken yrs to build up to what it is today.Do you really think that sony can come out of the woodworks and in one shot match up with MS who is a COMPUTER company and give it to you all for free, boy they do have their fanboys in check.I have no bitterness towards sony i just dont like being lied to as fans of sony are accustom to.At the rate of paying 50 bucks a yr for xbox live it will take 4 yrs to take the premium pack and 4yrs of xbox live gold to equal the price of the ps3.Thats pretty sad and if you pay attention sony isnt preventing game developers from charging fees to play their games online so dont believe the hype just yet.Howd the 2 hdmi outputs work out?oh they lied, how about 6 usb ports?they lied about that too, spring release date? Yet another lie. Damn when sony says they will be giving free online service how about we believe that at face value cause they'v never lied to their fans and thats the logical thing to do.TTownKlwn i know your not a fanboy because u own a 360 but come on man how do you just turn your head and justify those lies, bad reliabilty, and terrible customer service. Its time to kick sony in the mouth and brush them back for their smug ways. They have lost tons of exclusives, lied to thier fans, not been innovative at all and just delayed their release to poach ideas from their competition and the list goes on. I know in the end sony fans will turn their head so hey what can i do. I've converted 4 sony fans to the MS side of things and they are no longer getting a ps3,thats not what i aimed to do but once you lay the facts down in fron of them they came ot realize that having multiple ps2's break on them, and the ps3 coming out with a way too expensive price tag.im done...its just yada yada yada to fans of sony.

Hi to all. I think a lot of expeculation is running and people is assuming stuff without reading or doing research. But first $ony needs to be straight to the people and not screwing us. First with the PS1 they released a version with problems with the lens. I bought one of the machine and they did not performed a recall or replacement. Then with the PS2 I bought it in the first week of release of the machine and I ended with a bad product. Now people are saying that they will provide a FREE online service! jajaja People why they need a pre pay online card? Not everything will be free. Probably they will suply for free like a Live Silver Account...
If no read the last sentence of these news... http://www.mcvuk.com/newsitem.php?id=1036
Also read the info regarding the $500.00 price and specs... http://gear.ign.com/articles/709/709495p1.html
I like all the systems because I am a gamer. As gamers we win because of the need of every company to sell their products. So in the end we see the challenge they will have in prices and offers to us.. the consumers. But at the end we are the ones that decides what is worth and what is not. For now I have the PS1, PS2, XBOX, GC and XBOX 360. The wii will be a definitive buy because I would love to play a Wii Star Wars game with a light Saber that will be good. The PS3 will be a definity buy for me but in the future... not now because of the price. A HD-player or Blu-ray player I am not interested to buy it right now because I don't even have yet a HDTV
so that will be my first buy before I got a High definition player. I will be staying with the DVD format for a while and see when the prices go down... So in the future when the PS3 reach the $300 or lower then I am interested for the system as these types of systems are what they are called... entertaintments systems (for me Game systems).
