ok im laughing my #$$ off sony is going with this idea
1. a powerpc processor
2. a nvidia chipset
3. a gekko ps2 processor
4. a 60 gig hard drive
and a blu ray drive
wow talk about heat issues
1st the original ps2 processor produces heat and lots of it on top of that add the heat from the hard drive the cd drive the ps3 processor this console is going to run hot about 175 200 degrees hoter then the original ps2 doesn't any one see a problem with all of that heat???

The heat issues that plagued the 360 have become common knowledge. I don't think the Sony engineers will be inept enough to not include temperature control in their checklist.

ps3 is from what i have read fairly large, and considerably larger than the ps2, so hopefully they take precautions against this...allow for ventilation and regulation. we seriously do not need anymore kids bedrooms getting burnt down

Heat will be an issue, naturally, but the main problem with the original post is that the ps2 chipset won't be doing much while playing a ps3 game, and the cell/rsx won't be doing anything while playing a ps2 game.
Also, I'm not as sure about this, but bluray drive won't be a normal Blu-ray drive (like in standalone players) because the cell would be helping out.

Let's see some published facts to support the temperature claims otherwise this thread will get shut down for being more fanboy crap.

Isn't that fan covering the extract? How will that cool the processors?

$19.99 from my local Circuit City. BUT, the one of the 3 fans in the intercooler craped out. So it makes a grinding noise. I had to stick toothpicks in to the fan that was not working so that the grinding noise would stop. But overall, I does its job and prevents gameplay freezes and lowering the overall temperature of the system.

you shouldnt be forced to buy an add-on to keep your system cooler...
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

I don't know anyone with an additional 360 cooler. Their 360's run just fine the way they are.

I've had a 360 for quite a while, and I've never really had any heating issues. Mind you, the fans are a little loud, but better that than none at all.

According to most PR articles I've read, about as much as could be expecten in the margins of manufacturing defaults. (3-5%, apparently)
To put it in retrospect, the seriousness of the issue is no more or less than the inherent problems associated with the playstation or playstation 2's overheating/laser molding problems.
I've seen first hand both the ps1 and ps2 issues, but I havn't really seen any problem with the 360 to my knowledge. But I can't ignore the massive news of the 360 overheating problems, so I took everything into consideration here and figure it's not an issue that is worthy of discussion unless it's happened to you personally.

We're not even talking about Playstations anymore and it's a moot point since PS3 isn't out yet. Thread closed.
