After saving the DVD to my hard drive I proceeded to burn it but got no further than it writing the lead-in when I got this message. Once I get this message the program completely stops responding and in fact disappears from my task manager. I just purchased this DVD burner only a couple days ago and havn't a clue why it's doing this. I've managed to trash 3 DVDs already trying to figure out this problem with no success. he berner is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR111D. Any ideas?

Strange, I have the same writer for about a month myself and no problems, try upgrading to the latest firmware if you haven't already done so, you can get it here >> http://flashman.rpc1.org/Firmware/PIONEER/DVR-111_111D/DVR111D/DV...
Be sure to have the drive empty while flashing, upon successfull flash, reboot and try burning again.

I tried your link and got the message that it was already my current version of firmware. Pioneer site still down.

Hi badkittie
What software are you using to burn?
How about the brand of media?
When you installed it - is the jumper set to the corresponding connection on the ide cable (ie master connection - jumper set to master).

The software I"m using is Nero. The media is DVD-R. I've found a couple thread from 2 years ago covering this exact problem with no solution. I find it odd that it's still around. I'm really at a loss but right now our plan of action is to update Nero since there are 5 files needing update. If that doesn't fix it then I was reading that using the usb 1.1 instead of 2.0 seemed to work for most or simply removing the drive from the external case and installing it internally. Installing internally isnt exactly ideal since it will require sawing away at my case but we gotta do what we gotta do I guess. The problem seems to definatly lie somewhere between the Nero software and the usb 2.0 device. If anyone has any other ideas im open to hearing them. Also happy to answer questions I can but may have to consult my "network admin" first ;-). Thanks in advance.

@BadKittie
Post the last Nero log - we can take a look at that and go from there.
If your using Nero 6 it located here:
program files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt
Nero 7 located at: program files>Nero>Nero7>Core>NeroHistory.txt
Just be sure to edit out the serial # - they usually begin w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.

Stick with the 2.0 hub. I'd hold off on doing the internal bit too.

We can always have you burn with another program like dvd decrypter or imgburn & see how that goes.

edit: spelling :)

Hi BadKittie
This is part of the log. This one shows burning to an internal drive -PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104. Not the external one giving you the error.
The logs are separated by something like this:
=====***Nero Burning Rom***======
Copy and paste what's between this in the last one.

Here's 2 suggestions though from this peice:
Quote:
Nero API version: 6.3.1.13
Update Nero to this version- 6.6.0.18. Here's some links:
nero version 6.6.0.18 updates:

I'm sorry I haven't replied to this thread in a couple days but I got occupied. I did download the updates for Nero but all that managed to do was cause it to eject the disk with the same error as before. I have determined that although Nero installed ASPI drivers i do not have aspi drivers for windows and believe that may be part of the issue. I will be downloading winaspi drivers later tonight after i can secure my system in case of major problems.

@BadKittie
Downloading aspi drivers is may not be necessary. Nero will use either it's own or Windows SPTI. You should be good with those for Nero.
You can check NeroInfoTool>ToolKit>aspi tab to see if Nero's corrupted or if you have any other ones.

I'm guessing it's the Wnaspi32.dll which 2 places I can think it would be located are in windows/system32 and ahead/nero.
Check NeroInfoTool>ToolKit>aspi tab. Post back which are listed and if any show as corrupted.
For the burn error you can post that last log too to sort that part out.

The TRF error you get this time is because this version of Nero will no longer autoburn w/ Shrink. The last version to autoburn is 6.6.0.18
Uninstall the version you have, run the clean tool and install version 6.6.0.18 (see post above for links)
Here's a link to the clean tool:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/General_CleanTool.html

Or you can just open nero and burn the files.

Your 2 internal cd/dvd drives still need to have the dma turned back on.
Link above.

Roxio and nero don't always play well. Uninstall Roxio and run the clean tool for that.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

For the aspi you're okay there. Nero is just telling you that no other aspi drivers are installed. Nero is using Windows SPTI - it's here in the log NT-SPTI used
Try these and let us know how it goes!

Thank you so much for all your time and effort on this project! lol I will need some help from my resident tech to help completely understand all your instructions so it may take a couple days for me to put it all into effect. I will be sure to let you know how it all turns out once I am done. You have been great and are very very much appreciated by this somewhat knowledgable but very novice.

Reading the Clean page I saw this and I'm not sure what it means or if it's something I need to be concerned with. Any ideas?

Please note: Uninstalling a program also removes all related plug-ins. Please make sure you have saved these files so you can re-install them afterwards.

You're welcome!

For the plug-ins unless you purchased some separately for Nero you probably don't need to worry about this. You would have also received a separate serial # for these - so even if they did get unisntalled you could download again & use the serial #.

Keep us posted!

Oh and make sure you are using quality media like Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji or Sony. For burn speed on these use 8x or a little less.

I ran the firmware update and accessed a DVD I had previously saved on my hard drive and ran Nero on its own but the burn was still unsecussful. Should I go ahead and run the clean tool?

I would uninstall the current version, run the clean tool then install 6.6.0.18.
In the mean time post this log and let's have a look on what else may be going on.

You should have another one after it. Probably the last one in the text doc - the logs are separated by this:

O I'm confused now because I looked at the last log in that file and it was the one I pasted. I also noticed where the DMA was showing off on both devices. But I double checked im device manager and the Rpimary is set to DMA if available on both devices. And the Secondary is set to DMA if available for device 0 and PIO only on device 1. This was the exact setting right before that burn log posted.

The logs have a date and time stamp on them - both logs have this 13.6.2006 & 4:13:01

The DMA mode is not fixed also. In device manager look under what the mode is in 'current transfer mode' should say Ultra DMA Mode and a #. The second drive is still in PIO mode.

Look for a log w/ the date I'm guessing from 6/15 (when you tried just Nero to burn). The date will be above NeroAPI. See if you can find that one.

What brand of discs and what is your burn speed? That could be part of the problem too.

No problem :)
Well imation aren't the best by far - so let's slow that burn speed down to 4x for now and see we can get them to burn.
Better quality media to get would be Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell. Online look for Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim - the best ones.

editted to add: Once you find the log post it too.
