Hi , and I hope you can help me.
I have been hapily burning DVD's for some time now ( much to my families delight ) and having spent all day reading various forums for help and advice '

, I am resigned to the fact that whatever I seem to try , nothing fixes my problem---- The problem many others seem to have experienced with DVD Shrink and Nero. Till now all has been simple -- untill the WRITE ERROR .I upgraded from the original disc that came with the BenQ 1620 Burner some 18 months ago - Nero 6.3.something .
and upgraded to Nero Ultra 7. While Dvd Shrink semms to analyse and encodes successfuly , as soon as Nero starts I only get as far as the lead in before the disc pops out and I get the bad news about a write error.
I have tried going back to my original Nero version as well as several other versions that many posts have deemed to be successful but alas I am still unable to burn a DVD.
I have used several different discs and have tried to burn the files "left behind" just with Nero but still no luck .
Is my burner KAPUT or is there something I can do to get back in the game,??
I just tried burning Golf For Dummies without success and here is the Hijack This log Post with the burn failure attatched. Is there any help anyone can give me before I ....

@hamsplace

I'm not the best at reading these logs but it's for sure you're trying to burn the media at too high a speed (16X) cut it back to 4X then up to 8X (in good time)with good media. What media are you using? There is a Medium _key_error in the log as if the drive does not like or recognize your media.

Maybe Gwendolin or Binkie7 will come along and help you better than I. Both very good with Nero logs.

garmoon I would have to agree on what you said about burn speed and media. hamsplace I would also switch to Nero 6.6 I tried Nero Ultra 7 and had problems with it so I went back to Nero 6.6 which works great and no problems. Good Luck

Nero API version: 7.0.0.0
Update Nero with this link, use the clean tools and then reinstall. I would suggest 6.6.0.18 as it seems to work better for some, I use Nero 7 and have no problems with it...but since you have access to both version I'll leave that decision up to you.

These guys have hit it right on the head with the media you are using...

TDK's are terrible, try some Verbatims. Also don't burn at more than one half the rated speed of your media....16X is waaaay too fast.

Hi again ,.
Thanks for your replies , I greatly appreciate it.
Apologies for sounding totally inept but Can you tell me how to adjust the burn speed as Nero just seems to burn at the speed the discs are rated at . the TDK and Sony discs I have are 16 speed. I have been using these for 6-8 months with no problems up till now . I have also tried going back to Nero 6.6 after downloading the clean-up tool and searching out all associated remnant files also but was still unable to get a burn going after DVD Shrink finished analysing and encoding.
I have also had an occasional error saying Cannot connect TRF --
Thanks again.

In DVD Shrink once you've clicked backup and the new window pops up where you select your target, the last tab should be burn settings...choose your speed there. Make sure you have a blank disc in the drive or you will only get the default speeds in Nero (if no speed is selected the default in maximum). You must select your speed for each burn because Nero reverts back to default after each burn. You could also create an ISO with DVD Shrink and use Imgburn to burn, once you select your speed that becomes the default speed.

Thanks Locoeng ,
I have installed Imgburn - looks simple -- how do I get DVD Shrink to create the ISO from the DVD and get that into Imgburn . Can you "walk me through" that ? Yes I know - dumb Aussie .

Update -- I managed to get my head around that and oganised the iso file , sent it to Imgburn and all began well for about 10 seconds - then I got the dreaded write error and the burn was terminated.
I had halved the 16 speed disc to 8 as advised.
Does this mean that the burner is stuffed ? Any other ideas ?
Thanks for your time again.

Just to add to the last post -- I just burnt a music CD directly with Nero --and that worked fine . I tried originally to do this using the burning facillity directly in WM Player but that was unable to due to an unspecified error.

You didn't happen to save that Imgburn log did you? That BenQ drive should last alot longer than 18 months unless you burn 1000 discs a month. Also post your last Nero log, it should be different than the one that you've already posted.

Run this little tool and see if your system ASPI layer or Nero ASPI is corrupt.

Hi ,
I installed the tool - under system aspi it says Not Installed --under Nero aspi it says installed and working properly. I will try and post another burn log from Nero and Imgburn again
Thanks for the advice so far.

Your first log and the log you just posted at the top are identical...
Quote:
Nero API version: 7.0.0.0
Using interface version: 6.3.1.4
Use the clean tool for Nero 6 and install the update for 7 from the link that I provided earlier. Between the two logs I would say get some good media....verbatims are on sale at Best Buy this week, 50 for $15.
