Hi There from Dublin.
I have had a few problems lately with transcoding movie files in DVD Shrink 3.2
I've been using it for the last 1.5 years no problem. I've just upgraded my second storage drive to an 80 gb drive and it has worked fine for the last few weeks.
Now any time I back up a movie it takes anywhere from 8 - 15 hours to encode!!! processing speeds below 400kps, Dead slow. I've tried a number of things,: defragged the drive, checked the DMA ulta modes, Checked for Spyware and for viruses, removed any other non essential dvd copy software, updated firware on DVD drive, and windows updated etc etc etc!
My OS is Windows 2000 Pro, P111 800mhz, 256mb ram.
Has anybody got any idea what's gone wrong???? Thanks Anthony
Make sure you do not have AEC settings on in Shrink, leave it a default setting. Also, your ram is low 256mb will get the job done but encoding time will suffer, suggest you think about upgrading to at least 512mb, you will notice a difference.
Thanks for the reply to my querie.
Just looked into the AEC Settings. The default was without Aec on. Tried with and without. Didn't make any difference. Still as slow as a snail on Vallium. Any other suggestions??
Sometimes crap like this happens. Something might have gotten in your system and screwed your drivers.
If you have the Windows 2000 CD, reinstall windows. If you do not want to go through updating and such, use nlite to slipstream everything and make a new install CD.
Download all your drivers, especially your drivers for the internet before you format and reinstall windows. I include a folder in my install CD with the important drivers.
What I like to do is use a dual boot config. I keep one very clean and only install the most necessary software. For instance, on one of my PC's, I both analyze and encode movies in 12 minutes and the PC is 4 years old!!! Keeping your PC clean is very important.
If you do not have the disc, try reinstalling your motherboard drivers. Based on your CPU speed, it should take about 90 minutes for the average movie to analyze and encode.
Other possibilities include:
-some DRM got into your system
-An anti-copy technology infected your system (like starforce/sony rootkit)
-a virus got in there and screwed stuff up
-there are software conflicts
-there are hardware conflicts
-Miscrosoft installed something that screwed up your burn/copy abilities (not sure if they released anything yet, but it is very possible)
-One of your hard drives has some bad sectors
-you are running too many apps and your RAM is running low (dual booting with one clean install will solve this though)
Hi there, thanks for all that info. Unfortunatley I Don't have the original Win 2k Discs so I can't re-load it. It could be that there is a lot of Crap on both drives even after refragging. I'll look into some more of the things you mentioned. AS it stands it takes about 4 hours to rip a movie.
Again thanks for your input.
Anthony
4 hours to rip a movie means that something is either in PIO mode or you will need to reinstall your IDE drivers for the motherboard.
Perhaps you installed a program recently that screwed things up though...
Also, try ripping with either DVD Decrypter, DVDFab Decrypter or Smart Ripper. The DVDs will rip faster since it will not analyze the DVD.
For ARccOS movies, you can either use a PSL, one of my guides, one of Alkohol's guides, AnyDVD, etc... along with the software.
If it rips at a normal speed then, it is possible that your Hard Drive is in PIO mode. If it rips slow, then it could be the dirvers or that both IDE Channels are in PIO mode.
