This is the problem that's driving me up the wall. I've reinstalled shrink, Nero, fabdvd, everything. Here's the shrink log (hopefully someone knows how to read this stuff). Dvds stop burning at like 95%. Same thing with Nero by itself and clone stops at a similar point. This is after fabdvd>shrink...but same results with AnyDVD, decryptor, everything.(dvds: freedomland, hills have eyes, mamma's house 2) You'll notice at 10:20 the burn failed because the SCSI command aborted (whatever that means). HEELPP!

you need to edit out your serial number lest it be stolen and used by someone else. It's the number starting with 1A20********* at top of log.

Hi chris0001
1st let's edit out that serial # at the top of the log - begins w/ 1A.
Don't need someone else using it!

Nero API version: 6.3.0.2
Nero can use an update - the last version to autoburn w/ shrink is 6.6.0.18. Update to that one. Here's some links:
Package 1

Probably won't help with this problem - but best to have all drives in DMA mode. Here's a guide:

Your drive can use a firmware update too. The latest is 1.06

Recorder: _NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A, Media type: DVD+R
Your drive doesn't fully recognize the media - only that it's +r.
The firmware update may help this.
What media are your using?

512 mb is much better. Add more ram if you can. In the mean time - too much is in use. So no multitasking and shut down any unncessary procesess.
Anything change pc wise even change of media you using since you were last able to burn?

thanks...i'll give all this a try. No changes in hardware since the
last successfull burn which was underworld evolution (go figure), although I use an external DVDR and hdd which I add/remove or turn off when I dont need them.

The blank dvd's i've been using have been working fine up till now..I don't recall the brand, some generic ones i got at shop4tech website. I've used about 50 of them on this and another computer...maybe 1 dud in the batch.

On my secondary, device 0, the transfer is set to "dma if availabe" but it's using pio...should i go through the motions and reinstall the driver anyway? Everything else is at dma if available.
I'm going to hit those links and update now, thanks a lot, i'll be back.

Yep go ahead and try and set the cd rom drive in DMA mode. Probably won't make a diff on this problem but better to have it in the 'faster' transfer mode if you use it.

The media may be part of the issue. Update the firmware and see how it goes. Poorer quality media can be hit or miss at best.

To see who manufactured them see if Nero can identify them. Put a blank in the drive then go to NeroToolKit>InfoTool>disc tab. Post back (after Nero & firmware update) on what Nero sees.

Keep us posted!

Not looking to good on the media manufacturer. Never heard of it actually but this site has some user comments on it (not good mostly)
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dvdmediasearch=&dvdmediadvd...

Better would be Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji, Sony or Maxell.

But I will keep my fingers crossed!!

If it fails though post the new log.

@binkie7

I'm learning more about reading these things from you. I had all but the firmware update(too lazy to look up). Still was afraid to post since I knew you or Gwen would pounce on it anyway. I think I'll be braver in the future now.
