How come Slysoft's Clonedvd2 is twice as fast as DVD Shrink? It seems that Clonedvd2 takes half the time of DVD Shrink. Guess you get what you pay for or don't pay for.

well it has a lot to do with your computer setup
hard drive, size of ram, processor, ect
just got a new computer, its a great deal faster
than the old one..it usually takes about 25 min
total for encode/shrink/backup/burn on most movies.
CloneDvD2 along with AnyDVD is about the best combo
out there in my opinion............
DVD Shrink is no longer updated, but still works great
with AnyDVD

CloneDVD is faster but it comes at a cost, picture quality suffers!

Clonedvd's quality is only good at a compression level of up to 15-20% anything above that you start noticing artifacts, like noise, blockiness, etc..etc.. As where Shrink and Recode2 can go alot higher without these artifacts.

^^ I agree. I guess it all boils down to everyone's individual eyes but according to mine, CloneDVD provides a hell of a lot more pixelation than Shrink does.
Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

Yeah I heard DVD Shrink has better picture quality than CloneDVD2 and it's logical to think that way because Shrink takes so much longer to clone a DVD but I find in practice when I actually clone a DVD with either software, both are excellent. I don't see any difference in the results.

I can't see much, if any difference, then again I find that CloneDvd2 isn't much quicker than shrink...

I think that is a tad unfair, in my experience CloneDvd2 is NOT twice as fast as Shrink & Shrink is certainly not twice as good, if it is better at all.
All these are, of course, a matter of opinion & sweeping statements like the above don't really contribute to the debate in a constructive manner.
