If this question has already been answered I would appreciate it if someone could give me a link. I tried to search but didn?t know how to narrow it down. I?ve been using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink 3.1 to back up movies for over two years and never had a problem. I can still decrypt a movie and move it to my hard drive. I can run shrink to get it to the appropriate size, but when I try to back it up the box says:

Backup Complete
DVD Shrink has finished backing up your DVD. All output files are now ready for burning with appropriate DVD burning software.
DVD files were saved to the following location: D:\Video_TS
Total size: 4,464

This problem seemed to start when I bought some new blank media. They?re sony disc, which I?ve never had a problem with before. Could this be causing the problem or is it just a coincidence? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if I broke any posting rules with this first post. Hope this is in the right forum.

All you need to do is burn with your usual burning engine. Nero, or if your image is an iso DVD Decrypter or Imgburn.

How was you burning before?

Seems that you must have changed your settings in Shrink. Read the 'Guides' section in this forum for some good instructions on the use of Shrink.

In your specific case change the setting in 'Target Device' when selecting the 'Backup' option to 'ISO Image file and burn with DVD Decrypter". this option will automatically invoke DVD Decrypter to 'Burn' the file created by Shrink. Note Shrink does not have 'Burn' capability. Another option is to use the files you created in the Video_TS folder and burn them to a DVD disc with Nero, Roxio or some other burning program.

The problem you memtion does not in any way seem to be related to the media change you mention, just a coincidence.

regards

PS With regards about this question having been answered preiously, yes, many times. In fact take a look at the 'Used DVD Shink - now how do I burn' thread at the top of this forum.

Hello atx and welcome to AD.

DVD Shrink nor DVD Decrypter are being updated anymore so they can't handle the new encryptions. Give DVDFab Decrypter a try to rip and then DVD Shrink as usual.

http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

As for the new discs, you might need a firmware update to be able to utilize the new discs.

I agree, the message you are getting is not an error message but is just telling you that it has done it's job and is saying it is ready to be burnt with your burning engine program.

EDIT: Shrinks latest and last version is 3.2 you state you are using 3.1

to answer a couple of questions: I have burned probably over two hundred copies the way I use to. When I would open shrink I would select the option to "open file", once that was done I would select "backup" and I assumed that it was shrink that was burning the file. Also fwiw I'm using a sony dru-700A burner. I appreciate the replies and will try the suggestions.

Hi @LOCENG - your comments re Shrink and Decrypter are correct but atx does not state an inability to decrypt the DVD but just that Shrink is saying it completed sucessfully by creating the file in a folder. They must then use a program to 'burn' the files as Shrink does not do this. They must have changed some setting in Shrink as they stated it has been working in the past.
regards

Shrink does not burn it only compresses your movie to fit to a blank DVD-5. Do you have Nero / DVDDecrypter on your computer?

I have Nero that came with the burner, not sure which edition. And yes, I'm using 3.1. For the life of me I can't remember when I would've changed anything in the settings. Any recommendations for another burning program, maybe a free one?

You probably had it set up to burn with Nero just retick the box in the option settings in shrink.

Free options for burning is DVDDecrypter and Imgburn but only when you have selected the output as an iso file :)

EDIT: Added links

http://filehippo.com/download_dvd_decrypter/

http://www.imgburn.com/

Personally I recommend Imgburn as DVDD is no longer updated they are both made by the same guy LIGHTNING UK

@kringles

Thanks for trying to point out my mistake, but you and pazzini already got atx headed in the right direction with the problem at hand. I was preparing atx for the future when the poster comes across a movie that DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter can't handle by their lonesome.

Okay I just tried using DVDFab on a movie and it went through the entire process, but when I put it in my stand alone player it says that the disc is dirty. I tried to burn from my HD. Should I be able to burn it from the original w/out having to rip it? I really do appreciate the advice.

Those Sony discs may not be the greatest. Are you creating an ISO with DVD Shrink and burning with Imgburn as suggested by pazzini or are you still using Nero? Have your updated your firmware yet?

Current version for your drive is VY08 and can be found here:

Burning on the fly really isn't a recommended method. So many things can go wrong to create a coaster.

I updated the firmware last night. To tell u the truth I have no idea what ISO means. All I know is that I would put a disc in the drive, rip it to my HD, open it w/ shrink and then back it up. My computer knowledge is probably about ten yrs behind. Is there any place in the forums that might have some definitions of commonly used tech. terms? I downloaded the free trial of DVDFab and am using the express option on this current try.

Try the glossary tab at the top of the page.

Until then, when you backup with DVD Shrink and the new window pops open you are faced with two drop down menus. The top is where you choose your burner or target drive. Choose "ISO image file", you can then open the ISO image in Imgburn to burn. Alternately, since you have DVD Decrypter you can choose to autoburn, choose "ISO image file and burn with DVD Decrypter," this option will open DVD Decrypter when DVD Shrink is finished encoding and burn your DVD for you.

If the sony's are MIJs(made in Japan) you will not have a problem as they are of good guality.

I suspect they are the Taiwanese Sony's as the Japan made ones are getting harder to find, same with Fuji's.

atx it seems like you are trying to get your movie burned that you decrypted, every reply so far, although right hasn't helped you to get the movie burned yet you don't need to decrypt the movie again, you alreadyhave it stored to your hd....just open Nero, go to add dvd files, open video folder, click add, go to your D drive where VIDEO_TS folder is, open that folder and add all the files and then burn with Nero.....
dvdshrink can work in conjunction with Nero, when you click backup taget device should be your dvd drive (sony dru-700A) and pazzini is right you need the burn option ticked, and also go under "burn setting" tab and make sure everything is fine,,,if that doesn't work, like pazzini said update your firmware, update Nero http://ww2.nero.com/enu/Downloads.html , and reinstall shrink

@ atx,

I would advise u not to use DVDFab EXPRESS PLATINUM, just use DVDFab decrypter(Free versoion) get it here http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

then follow this whole guide http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/334154

if u follow that guide it will work perfect on ur DVD player,
also u should get the DVD Shrink 3.2 version

PS. U can skip the vobBlanker part in the guide if u don't get any errors while using shrink or Nero.
But if u r trying to copy a sony or disney movie u probably need to use VobBlanker

I really do appreciate everyone?s help and patience in trying to help me resolve this, but because of my ignorance with computers I?m still s.o.l. To answer a couple of questions earlier when I was able to find the right tab on shrink, burn with Nero was selected. I was unsuccessful in using DVDFab for anything. I bought some new media, Memorex. And I can burn data disc with the burner.

I tried using Nero, without going through shrink, and that didn?t work either. I select the option to burn image to disc. It ask ?what would you like to burn?? and I select DVD-Video files. I pick the movie that I already have on my HD, click next and it won?t even let me click on burn, it?s not an option. I tried using the DVDFab and when I try to select my F drive as the target device it tells me ?Failed to create directory at: F:\DVD\ (1).

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a program that I can get here, or even C-net. At this point I would even be willing to pay if I could make sure that it would do what I needed it to do. Thanks for the help.

Here is the free way of making perfect backups:

1) DVDFab decrypter - this wil break the movies encryption while ripping the movie to your HDD

http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

2) Vobblanker - Not always needed

http://www.jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

3) dvdshrink - this will allow you to compress the movie to fit onto a blank DVD-5 disc. Select your output as an ISO image

http://filehippo.com/download_dvdshrink/

4) Imgburn - the best free burner around

http://www.imgburn.com/

Here are some guides:

http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=51904

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/334154

http://www.dvdr-digest.com/articles/article_vobblanker_page1.html

http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/

EDIT: Always use good quality blank media Taiyo Yuden & Verbatim are the best two IMO.

As 300bowler said if you do not mind paying the best program to use to break all the latest movie encryptions is AnyDVD from slysoft, try it out for yourself you have a 21 day free trial http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html

pazzini summed it up there.....if you want to buy a program definately AnyDVD....just make sure if you have .vob,.ifo,.bup files under Nero you click dvd video files and if you have a .iso file you just need to click burm image and it should go straight to the add screen then just add .iso
