This issue is really bugging me. I know everbody is going to say I have a cooling problem, well I have one intake fan, two exhust fans, my power supply has three fans of it's own and I have a $90 heatsink (Zalman 9500). I can't say for sure it's DVD Shrink that's causing the problem. I need somebody's help PLEASE! I build this system here are some of the details:
*mobo: Intel D945PSN
*CPU: Intel Pentium D 820 2.8GHZ
*Heatsink: Zalman 9500
*OS: Windows XP PRO
*HDD: WesternDigital Raptor 74GB
*Videocard: ATI Readeon X700 Pro (PCIExpress)
I have already checked the memory (memtest86) and found no errors I also ran CPU Burn-in for 30min and that worked fine. I noticed that my CPU's run at %100 when encoding even though DMA is enabled.

Shrink can shutdown when it encounters a copy protection that it cant handle. What movie are you trying to backup?

hey pazzini, i think demarco71 means that his PC shuts off when running shrink?

@ demarco71,

check out a program called speedfan, it moniters the temp of the cpu and other temps, it sounds like your cpu is overheating. have you cleaned the dust out recently.

Check out this thread i had the same problem awhile ago.

evening 300bowler,

You are correct, me bad D'oh

demarco71,

Sorry mate I misread your post.

You say you built it the pc yourself, did you make sure you put enough thermal paste on your CPU? If you did not put on the right amount your cpu will overheat and shut down.

Edit: Shrink does use 100% of your cpu, it is best that when transcoding to shut everything off in the background, and just leave the PC alone.

Well pazzini, I used Artic Silver with the Zalman 9500 heatsink ( I covered the entire surface) I also build the the same system for a friend and his seems to work fine, when he encodes with DVD Shrink his CPU's don't run at %100 and the pc doesn't shut off unexpectedly. I'm starting to think that DVD Shrink is not the culprit beacuse it did the same thing last night when I was using Webroot Spysweeper to scan my system, the CPU's were running at %50. Any Ideas, I'm Dry?

P.S. Would the Video Card cause something like this I'm using an ATI Readeon X700 Pro (PCIExpress) my friends system is using an Nvidea card and that's about the biggest diffrence between our systems. Thanks to all for your help>

Thanx for the tip 300bowler, I downloaded speedfan and ran cpu burn-in for 3 min and indeed the temp went up as indicated with a really cool red hot flame. I guess I didn't properly installed my Zalman 9500. I will have to go back and redo it when I have time. However let me know if anybody knows of any other possibilities.
Thanx
