Is CloneDVD's compression worse than Shrinks? I backed up Doom but the quality didnt look as good compared to other movies that I used Shrink on. It might just be the dvd but i'm not sure. I know Shrink doesnt have the deep analysis or those special compression options.

Hi Nick1814
I think Shrink does a better job w/ quality on the compression than CloneDVD. Yes CloneDVD doesn't have the Deep Analysis or special compression options.
I do like though when doing a full backup w/ Clone just having to uncheck what you don't want - or just picking movie only and keeping the menu's.
Nero's Recode does a little better job than Shrink and a little faster but can't do copy protected movies unless you ripped 1st w/ dvdfab decrypter or have AnyDVD in the background.

It's all about personal choice.

Shrink as far as picture quality goes is superior to CloneDVD 2.

The only transcoder that is better than shrink is Recode 2 but not by much.

Many people like CloneDVD 2 for its simplicity, CloneDVD 2 is the easiest and fastest transcoder to use.

quote."Is CloneDVD's compression worse than Shrinks?" BIG YES.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

I have them both & have to agree that shrink does a better job on the movies where the compression ratio is less than 94%. If I'm backing up a move that's shorter in length & the compresion ratio is 100% I'll go with Clone DVD2 because I see no difference in quality.

Actually DVD Shrink does have these options, after clicking backup from the main screen these options are under the Quality Settings tab.

I also concur with the rest of the crowd about the overall quality.

Here is a thread on Shrink vs. Recode. The comparisons were made and you can judge which is better. Clone is not high on my list for transcoding anything below 90%, too many artifacts in the backup. However, for splitting and retaining a functional menu, Clone shines.

My combination is to first use DVD Fab Decrypter and then DVD Shrink and then CloneDVD 2.

and thats my whole process in that order and i dont bother to use the compression of CloneDVD unless its goin to b a small compression and the overall percantage is still over 70% i will use CloneDVD otherwise i will use DVD Shrink. I know its the longer process but its worth the wait.

I hope that helps. :)
